The project stars Phoebe Dynevor, Whitney Peak and Djimon Hounsou, with Adam McKay and Kevin Messick serving as producers. Netflix is planning a launch for later this year. Sony had initially slated the thriller, which was formerly known as Shiver, for theatrical release on Aug. 1, 2025, before announcing last year that the movie had shifted to July 3, 2026. Plot details have not been shared, but previous reports about the project have noted the involvement of sharks. Earlier this week, Sony continued its relationship with Netflix through a global Pay-1 licensing deal for Sony features to stream on Netflix worldwide after their theatrical and home media windows. The companies have previously collaborated on Sony Pictures Animation's Mitchells vs the Machines, which has a sequel in the works. Among the recent projects to have been part of the studio's streaming deal with Netflix include 3000 Pictures' People We Meet on Vacation and Sony Pictures Animation's K-Pop Demon Hunters, with the latter now the streamer's most-watched film ever. Wirkola is known for helming such films as Dead Snow, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters and What Happened to Monday. He directs Violent Night 2, the sequel to his 2022 Christmas-themed action movie, which is set to his theaters Dec. 4 from Universal Pictures and sees David Harbour reprise his role as Santa Claus. Dynevor is known for her work on Bridgerton and in such films as Fair Play and Anniversary.
