Posted 3 minutes agoFarrah Abraham Got Completely Schooled On Live TV After Announcing She's Running For Mayor"Hey so this is disturbing to me!"by Chelsea StewartBuzzFeed StaffFacebookPinterestLink You might have heard that Teen Mom alum Farrah Abraham is running for mayor of Austin, Texas. Jon Kopaloff / Getty Images Farrah announced her candidacy this week, and on Thursday, she dialed in to TMZ to talk about her platform. But things got seriously awkward when the conversation turned to election years. Amanda Edwards / Getty Images In a clip now going viral on X, Farrah was asked why she's running so early, given that Austin's next mayoral election isn't until 2028. "For some reason, the mayor election is 2026," she said, adding with an awkward laugh, "I don't know, that's what the office told me, as well." TMZ When host Harvey Levin asked for clarity, Farrah confidently said, "So am I running for district? District will be - which is federal - I'm running local right now, so local is a little bit different than federal." TMZ She continued, "I did say my hope after running for local is for a local district, which is in 2028. So I do have hope for running for district, but for right now, I'm going to stay in a nonpartisan category, which is mayor." TMZ Still confused, Harvey asked again, and Farrah repeated, "I'm just going to be running for mayor, which is 2026." TMZ As Harvey continued to express skepticism, Farrah said, "I don't believe mayors are on a different year." He replied, "Yeah, I know. It's different in every city," and she responded, "I just know what my city has told me." TMZ At that point, Harvey directed someone off-camera to call the Austin City Hall to determine the election date, which was confirmed as 2028. The date is four years after current mayor Kirk Watson was elected to office in 2024. Farrah Abraham "There was a two-year term with a vacancy in 2022, but now it's aligned with the presidential election," Harvey explained. A visibly flustered Farrah simply responded, "OK." Farrah Abraham "So it is 2028, so I think you may have jumped the gun here," Harvey said. Farrah replied, "I love that I jumped the gun." But as she tried to recover, she stumbled. "But yeah, so, I think, I don't know. There's also a lot going on locally, so if someone also misinterpreted that and told me different, that's okay too." TMZ Viewers were stunned.
This is an incredible interview. She thinks all mayoral elections are on the same schedule, nationally lmao https://t.co/orY9Ggj78k- jordan (@JordanUhl) January 16, 2026 @JordanUhl / Via Twitter: @JordanUhl One X user wrote, "Hey so this is disturbing to me!" Another tweeted, "You can't make this up." "'district is federal, i'm running local' girl no that's actually completely wrong," another viewer said. Someone else joked, "Farrah thinking every city in America votes for mayor on the same Tuesday is peak comedy. She's out here campaigning for an election that doesn't even exist for two years." "This isn't real life....." a fifth viewer wrote, while one more added, "God help us all." Farrah later revealed on Instagram that she's no longer running for mayor and will instead run for City Council. LMK your thoughts in the comments!
