After Ohio couple Monique Tepe and Spencer Tepe were murdered in their own home, one of their family members revealed that the suspect in the case, Michael McKee, used to "torment" Monique when they were still married. "She just had to get away from him," Monique's brother-in-law, Rob Misleh, said of McKee, 39, while appearing on the Wednesday, January 14, episode of Good Morning America. Misleh went on to claim that McKee was emotionally abusive when he was married to Monique. "Myself and many others were well aware of, kind of, the negative impact that he had on her. And the abuse that he put her through, the torment that he put her through," he said. "She was willing to do anything to get out of there," Misleh added. "She was a very strong person." Their divorce was finalized in June 2017. Additionally, they didn't share any children during the time they were together. Authorities found Spencer with multiple gunshot wounds, while Monique was shot at least one time in the chest. The couple's two kids and dog were also at the home during the homicides, though they were all unharmed. Investigators identified McKee as a suspect after his car was spotted near the Tepes' home via surveillance footage. His vehicle "arrived just prior to the homicides and left shortly after," according to authorities. After police were able to confirm that the car belonged to McKee, he was tracked down in Rockford, Illinois, and arrested in connection to the killings. McKee was initially arrested on murder charges Saturday, January 10, though the charges were upgraded to aggravated murder one day later. On Monday, January 12, McKee made his first appearance in court. He silently stood next to his lawyer as she shared his plan to enter a not guilty plea. Additionally, the attorney explained that her client was waiving his right to an extradition hearing. The developments in the case continued on Wednesday, January 14, when Columbus Police Chief Elaine Bryant said in a news conference that a weapon found at McKee's home that authorities believe is the same weapon used to kill Monique and Spencer. "But we weren't saying that, because we didn't want to compromise the investigation," the family member - who asked to remain anonymous - said. "We are all breathing a bit of a sigh of relief, because they got him."
