So very sad. Two years before his daughter passed away, Tommy Lee Jones filed for a temporary conservatorship over his daughter, Victoria Jones. Back in August 2023, the actor filed a petition to establish a guardianship over his daughter's person and estate, according to Us Weekly on Wednesday. He was listed in the court docs as the petitioner. Margaret Caron Schmierer was set as the conservator. The request was granted, and it was even extended on a short-term basis (but not for her estate). He also asked that neither she nor other family members receive notice of the hearing because if Victoria found out, he was afraid she would "disappear once again" and attempt to access money that would aid her self-destructive ways. Oof. At the time of the filing, Victoria, 31 back then, was on an involuntary 14-day psychiatric hold at a Greenbrae hospital for being a danger to herself or others, court records note, which she was appealing. Tommy's petition claimed she was at risk of "life-threatening conduct" and requested a conservator get her transferred to a drug rehab facility, rather than a hospital. He wrote in the legal docs: "The proposed conservatee needs to recover and work towards sobriety. For these reasons, the proposed conservatee will suffer irreparable harm if her residence is not changed from a hospital to a rehab facility." She ultimately left a rehab facility and fought back against the conservatorship. Tommy asked the court to terminate the conservatorship, and a judge signed off on the request, in December 2023. Sadly, two years later, on New Year's Day this year, the 34-year-old was found dead in a San Francisco hotel. No official cause of death has been released at this time, but dispatch audio suggests it could have been due to a drug overdose. Victoria had faced several run-ins with the law throughout her life, including a drug-related incident in April 2025.
