The streaming giant on Wednesday announced that former Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson and former NFL star Michael Irvin would host new video podcasts for its platform. Davidson will host The Pete Davidson Show every week, featuring "no-holds barred conversations" filmed mostly in his garage, beginning Jan. 30. Davidson has hosted a number of stand-up comedy specials for Netflix. "So it felt right to bring the podcast there, too. It's me and my friends talking about anything and everything. It's going to be a great time." Irvin, the NFL hall-of-famer and Netflix Christmas Day game analyst, will host The White House with Michael Irvin, a twice a week sports talk podcast starting Jan. 19. Netflix has been cutting a slew of deals to bring video podcasts to its platform, most notably with Bill Simmons' The Ringer and Dave Portnoy's Barstool Sports, betting that sports talk will make for a ripe area to explore. It also cut a deal with iHeartMedia. But the Davidson and Irvin shows are different, and suggest that the company is serious about launching wholly original shows. The streaming giant reached out to the major agencies last year inquiring about talent that would be interested in working with them on podcasts.
