Court documents exclusively obtained by Us Weekly detail the divorce between Monique Tepe and her ex-husband, who is accused of killing her and her dentist husband, Spencer Tepe, at their Ohio home nearly two weeks ago. Michael McKee was arrested in connection to their murders on Saturday, January 10, in Illinois, a Winnebago County Sheriff's Office spokesperson previously told Us. Mckee and Monique were married in Columbus, Ohio, in August 2015, before their divorce was finalized in June 2017, according to court documents viewed by Us. Monique filed for divorce in May 2017, according to a complaint, which says that she and McKee had been living separately at the time In the complaint, she said that they were both "incompatible." More than a month later, a judge awarded Monique the divorce "on the grounds of incompatibility," according to a divorce decree. "The parties are incompatible and as such the wife is entitled to a divorce," the judge wrote in the filing. McKee was awarded the couple's home in Roanoke, Virginia as part of a separation agreement, which describes the property as the "martial residence." The separation agreement also says that Monique and McKee were not obligated to pay spousal support to each other. McKee is accused of killing Monique, 39, and Spencer, 37, at their Columbus home on December 30, 2025. Investigators believe the couple was fatally shot between 2:00 and 5:00 a.m. that morning. McKee, a vascular surgeon who lives in Chicago, appeared in Winnebago County Court in Illinois on Monday, January 12 as part of an extradition hearing, The Rockford Register Star reported. He has waived extradition to Ohio. His public defender, Carrie Poirier, said that McKee plans on pleading not guilty, according to the newspaper. Poirier's contact information was not immediately available. The murder charges against McKee, 39, were upgraded to aggravated murder on Sunday, January 11, according to court documents viewed by People. In response to the news of McKee's arrest, the Tepe family said in a statement that "Nothing can undo the devastating loss of two lives taken far too soon," according to The Columbus Dispatch. "We thank the community for the continued support, prayers and compassion shown throughout this tragedy," the Tepe family added. "As the case proceeds, we trust the justice system to hold the person responsible fully accountable." McKee was linked to the killings after authorities said he made the mistake of allowing his car to be spotted near the Tepes home, Us reported, according to court documents viewed by People. Neighborhood surveillance captured McKee's vehicle arriving "just prior to the homicides" and leaving "shortly after," the documents say, per People.
