Actor Mark Ruffalo, known for his political activism, is not ruling out the possibility of one day running for office. "It isn't on my game card right now, but who knows. I mean, you never say never," Ruffalo, 58, exclusively told Us Weekly on Friday, January 9, while attending the All the President's Men benefit reading for the Stella Adler Foundation. "I mean, I spent a lot of time in that world, and acting - it's for the people," Ruffalo continued. "So, I love the people and politicians could be doing something good for the people." The Marvel star then praised current New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who ran as a Democratic Socialist and was sworn in on January 1, becoming the first major U.S. politician to take an oath of office on a Quran. Jason Momoa and More Celebrity Activists "Seeing Mamdani's win in New York has really excited me about what's possible in the United States right now," Ruffalo said, before lamenting the often regurgitated political talking point that change is too expensive or takes too much time. "It's bulls***," he continued. "And the people in America are suffering. If the people in America weren't suffering, we wouldn't be where we are right now. You know, it's a failure on both parties. They become completely captured by corporations, both parties. And it's time for a new America that is for the working people who were the plurality of this country." Ruffalo, a loud critic of current President Donald Trump, has been increasingly known for his political advocacy. In 2017, after Trump was first elected as president of the United States, Ruffalo joined stars, directors and politicians alike in a protest outside Trump's New York City hotel the night before he was inaugurated. Mark Ruffalo Getty Images "Mark Ruffalo, Alec Baldwin & myself will be holding a massive rally in NYC in front of Trump International Hotel this Thursday, 6 pm! Come!" filmmaker Michael Moore shared via X, then Twitter, at the time. The documentarian later retweeted an NBC News story that included other big names who participated in the protest, including then-New York mayor Bill de Blasio, Rosie Perez and the Reverend Al Sharpton. Since then, Ruffalo has been outspoken about the war in Ukraine, the ongoing war in Gaza and the October 7 terrorist attacks, as well as the second Trump administration, immigration and more. While the actor is remaining vague regarding his potential political career, one thing is for certain - Ruffalo is spending his time enjoying the new HBO hit The Pitt, just like the rest of Us. "I am a huge fan of The Pitt!" he told Us on Friday, adding that he believes the emergency personnel depicted in the series are "our heroes." Celebrity Heroes: Stars Who Saved Lives and Made a Difference "You know, we just came out of Covid. These people are our heroes," he added. "They're our frontline fighters. They literally make nothing doing that job. It's so exciting. Like, you're going to be a soldier, you're going to work as a paramedic, you're going to work in the E.R., or you're going to be a journalist - those are all really exciting things. As a kid, those would be the things that I'd want to do." Ruffalo continued, "And Noah Wyle is just a great talent and a beautiful guy, and the writing's great, and it has a pulse but it has a heart, too. That's what I want - a heart and a pulse." While teasing season 2 of his own hit series, Task, Ruffalo made it clear that he is certainly mixing the professional with the political. "Ethan comes home, there may be a love story for Tom and we're gonna take on some serious issues in the United States right now," he told Us.
