Jennifer Lawrence is under fire after making some eyebrow-raising comments about dogs! During a screening for her new film, Die My Love, in New York City on Wednesday, the 35-year-old actress revealed that she had to rehome her chihuahua, Princess Pippi Longstocking, after it bit her 3-year-old son Cy, whom she shares with husband Cooke Maroney. Jennifer explained that "dogs became so scary" to her after becoming a mom. In fact, the Hunger Games alum sees the pets as a "threat" now following an incident with her kid, which made her want to "obliterate every dog." Jeez. She said: "It's almost like I don't recognize dogs right now, like I just see them as a threat. One of them bit my son, and that made me just wanna obliterate every dog. I'm just like, 'I'm gonna take out you and your f**king family. You and your friends. I'm gonna go to China and take care of your friends over there. Anyone who looks like you is dead.'" But after that situation with her son, Jennifer decided to rehome Princess Pippi. However, the doggo didn't go far. She is now living with the Oscar winner's parents. Watch a video of her interview (below): View this post on Instagram A post shared by E! News (@enews) Jennifer obviously went into momma bear mode, as well as was only joking during the screening. In reality, we bet this was a difficult decision for her, but one she needed to make for her family. She also made sure Pippi went to a loving home, so there's that. However, many fans still thought she took things way too far! They stormed the comments section of the clip to slam her for not only rehoming her dog but for her "awful" choice of words while talking about it. Social media users are especially upset with her saying she wanted to "obliterate every dog." See the reactions (below): "you don't dump your dog just because you had kids you learn to teach your kids to respect your pet wow I really don't like her now" "This is very unfortunate and very disappointing. I wish she would have thought how much this will hurt the crisis that dogs and animal rescuers are facing all over the world." "Ufff Jen did not pass the vibe test. Poor dog." "Wow. This is beyond disturbing." "Thats an awful statement" "What the heck is she saying? This isn't funny how she talks about hating dogs and wanting to 'obliterate' them" "I loved her.. this is so disappointing. I hope people dont think this is normal behavior." "I am not judging her for rehoming the dog but I am appalled by her language, commentary, and evident lack of sadness about rehoming a living being." "This is not funny. Like, at all. dog bites are awful and a VERY real concern which is why slow integration and training with kids is an absolute necessity. Saying she wants to 'obliterate' every dog when we already see so many euthanized at our local shelters just broke my heart." "What's especially concerning is using a massive platform not only to normalize giving up a dog after a preventable incident, but to publicly speak so flippantly about obliterating dogs. No I don't think she meant she would actually ever hurt a dog, but that language minimizes their lives, fuels fear and has real world consequences for animals who already pay the price for human failure." "YIKES. Im SHOCKED. I loved her.. this is so disappointing. i hope people dont think this is normal behavior . I have twins and my dogs are family FOREVER. We are a pack together. A home full of love, respect, loyalty and time dedicated to all.. DO BETTER JENNIFER" Yikes... Some people did come to her defense, though. They fired back: "Sometimes the family pet can be a danger to a baby. There are signs. Ultimately, as the parent, your child comes first." "This comment section aint it. She did what was best for her family, the dog is in a safe space now" "As a professional dog trainer and nonprofit dog shelter founder, this comment section isn't it. Dog people are some of the most judgmental people around. We don't know the situation. If she felt her dogs were unsafe around children, we should not be judging a mother and a decision she made for the safety of her children. A parent should ALWAYS choose her child's safety." "Y'all really don't get that your child's safety comes first? And that the dog may be happier in a child free home and sometimes you don't know that until the child arrives? It's insane to me that people think it's that easy. It's hard for people to grasp that if you've truly tried to train and integrate: at the end of the day your child HAS to come first. There is an actual issue if you love your animal more than the safety your child. Period. She didn't send the dog to a shelter or put the animal up on some Facebook group for free. That's the kind of thing that shows a lack of love for your animal. Being the parent of a human always comes first, and y'al
