The supposed reason Michele and Rob Reiner's son's medications were changed has been revealed! If you've been following the case, you know that Nick Reiner was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder back in 2020. The Mayo Clinic states the disorder is "marked by a mix of schizophrenia symptoms, such as hallucinations and delusions, and mood disorder symptoms, such as depression, mania and a milder form of mania called hypomania." Related: What Jail Life Is Like For Nick Reiner As He Awaits Trial On Murder Charges In Parents' Deaths As we previously reported, sources with direct knowledge revealed in the new documentary titled TMZ Investigates: The Reiner Murders: What Really Happened, which aired on Friday, that Nick's previous medication for the disorder appeared to be working. Despite being stable on the meds, however, his doctors decided to switch them one month before he allegedly brutally murdered his parents, and it sent him off the rails. He was allegedly agitated, unpredictable, erratic, and becoming increasingly dangerous. In fact, sources claimed he had suffered a complete break from reality by the time of the killings. Oof. The insiders said Michele and Rob knew about the "alarming" changes in Nick but had no clue what to do, especially since the docs didn't put him on a temporary psych hold or change his meds again. And sadly, we all know what happened from there. It was unknown why the doctor chose to change Nick's medication at the time, only that it would be shocking when everyone found out. Well, we're learning the alleged jaw-dropping reason for the switch now. In the documentary on Friday, Harvey Levin revealed that a source with direct knowledge said doctors altered his meds because Nick gained weight. He allegedly complained about gaining weight while on the drug, which is a common side effect, so the doctors accommodated him by changing them. As Levin put it: "Doctors accommodate Nick by changing his meds, which then results in a cascade of mental problems that end with the murders of Rob and Michele Reiner." Whoa. Unfortunately, while the 32-year-old screenwriter remains behind bars, his medication reportedly still isn't working. Nick allegedly is "delusional" and doesn't understand why he is in jail, even believing those who put him behind bars are involved in a "conspiracy against him." Oof. So, the doctors are working to try to figure out how to stabilize his behavior while in prison. Watch a clip from the documentary (below): What are your reactions, Perezcious readers?
