It's the haunting thought on everyone's minds since the horrific killings. Did Nick Reiner understand what he'd done when he allegedly murdered his parents Rob and Michele? What state of mind was he in?? We know he was acting erratically and making people uncomfortable at Conan O'Brien's Christmas party the night before. He'd struggled with addiction and mental health most of his life, experiencing drug-fueled rages, and was even diagnosed with schizophrenia. While some in his family feared his behavior, others in the Reiners' inner circle could never have imagined something like this happening. So when he allegedly snapped, did he realize it? Related: How Rob Reiner's Kids Feel About Nick Facing Death Penalty Nick is yet to open up about his version of the story as he remains in jail. However, TMZ sources are now shedding light on the situation. As part of the outlet's new doc, TMZ Investigates The Reiner Murders: What Really Happened, which will air on FOX on Friday night, sources claimed Nick understands he allegedly murdered his parents - but he believes there's a bigger conspiracy at play. Apparently, the 32-year-old is "delusional" and doesn't understand why he's currently in jail. He thinks those who put him behind bars are entangled in a "conspiracy against him." Per the sources, his mental health spiraled out of control about a month before the killings when doctors changed his medication for schizoaffective disorder, a mental illness that can cause delusions, hallucinations, and mania. The sad thing is, his original meds were actually working well, the insiders alleged. But the new treatment made him increasingly erratic and dangerous. And eventually, it led to the devastating tragedy. Sadly, the medication he is currently on reportedly still isn't working to stabilize his behavior, and docs are trying to figure it out while he's behind bars. Oof. So, so sad. We hope they can get him the help and treatment he needs. See more from the upcoming doc (below): For resources on mental health, visit https://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/find-help.
