Brianna Bryson / Getty Images Speaking to Deadline on the red carpet, Odessa explained: "The gag is the LA premiere was a wig, and the New York premiere, it took me five hours to do my hair, and everyone thinks it's a wig." Axelle / Getty Images She then went on to ask the reporter: "You think I can afford a wig like that and wear it all the time?" Dia Dipasupil / Getty Images "You heard it here first, folks, the truth!" the reporter breezily concluded, but Odessa wasn't finished, going on to share her shock at how expensive wigs can be. Deadline / Via x.com "A wig like that... I've heard wigs can go up to, like $20-30,000. Are you fucking kidding me?" she continued. "I don't even have a hair, makeup, and stylist because I'm trying to save my money because what?! That's crazy." Deadline / Via x.com "That's expensive," she concluded. "I'm not doing that right now. Maybe one day." Deadline / Via x.com So far, so relatable, right? But, unfortunately for Odessa, it didn't take long for social media users to recall that she's hardly an actor who has worked her way from the ground up and needs to look after her pennies. Variety / Getty Images As a matter of fact, she actually comes from a very famous family, with several members having their own Wikipedia page - including her mom, Pamela Adlon. While you may not know Pamela by name, she's an incredibly established actor who has been working since 1982, when she got her breakout role in Grease 2. Variety / Getty Images She also starred in the John Hughes classic Say Anything..., but you would probably best know her for her voice work; Pamela voiced Spinelli in the animated '90s series Recess, and Bobby Hill in King of the Hill - for which she won an Emmy award. Frederick M. Brown / Getty Images She has also starred in Californication and Louie, as well as a TV series inspired by her life called Better Things, and has an estimated net worth of $16 million. Momodu Mansaray / Getty Images Meanwhile, Odessa's dad is German movie director Felix Adlon, her paternal grandfather was German filmmaker Percy Adlon, and her maternal grandfather was the American writer-producer Don Segall. Angela Weiss / Getty Images And with all of this in mind, Odessa's totally unprompted rant about the expense of wigs, makeup artists, and styling has not gone down well online, with X users accusing her of trying to seem more "relatable" as a calculated PR move. Michael Buckner / Getty Images Quote-tweeting the Deadline interview, one viral tweet that has been liked more than 281k times reads: "'you think i can afford a wig?' - someone who's whole family tree has their own individual wikipedia pages." Marleen Moise / Getty Images Another commented: "Nepo baby complaining about money to feign relatability while recently starring in one of the highest grossing films of the year." (C) A24 / Courtesy Everett Collection Somebody else tweeted: "I love when rich kids try to downplay their fortunes to seem more relatable 'I'm a broke 20 something too 🤪' girl bye 😂" Chelsea Guglielmino / Getty Images While one more observed: "Wealthy gen Z urge to pretend they're poor should be studied." John Nacion / Getty Images However, Odessa has now hit back at the backlash and doubled down on her comments about her finances. Addressing the online reaction to Deadline on Wednesday, she said: "I talked about money, but then I don't think that people realize that for a large majority of your career, you're not making a lot of money. It's not going too crazy, but knock on wood, there will be some changes. But that's just what I meant when I said I'm trying to save my funds." Monica Schipper / Getty Images Hmmm...
