Chelsea Handler has entered the toxic mom group discourse. Handler, 50, appeared on Page Six Radio on Wednesday, January 7, where she defended Mandy Moore after Ashley Tisdale French's now-viral essay for The Cut about leaving her "toxic" group of mom friends behind. (While French, 40, did not name Moore, 41, in the essay, she was previously known to spend time with a mom group that included the This Is Us alum, as well as Hilary Duff and Meghan Trainor.) "I have no idea what went on, but I know Mandy Moore and she's a wonderful, sweet person," Handler said of the drama. "So I'll just say that. But I don't really know Ashley Tisdale." Handler continued, "And I don't say it with disdain in the way I just said it. But I don't know Ashley Tisdale, so I would like to be transparent." Who Is in Ashley Tisdale's Celeb Mom Group? Everything to Know The comedian also praised Duff, 38, and Trainor, 32. "I do like Meghan Trainor as well," she said. "I like when Hilary Duff is in a story. I'm not sure why. I'm attracted to story lines with her in them." Handler, who is not a mom herself and has stated that she doesn't want kids, added that she has "never been in a mom group." "It sounds awful," she continued. "That's another reason not to have children. To have to deal with that s***. You're out of school, you're a mother and you have to deal with that dynamic and being excluded again as an adult woman. No, thank you." French made headlines for the mom drama after she published her essay for The Cut on January 1. In the article, the Disney Channel alum discussed her "breakup" with her former mom group after they allegedly excluded her from hangouts and group chats. Christian Thompson/Disneyland Resort "There's one recent topic that has made my phone blow up like no other since I first wrote about it a few weeks ago," French wrote, referring to a blog post she had previously penned on the topic. "It's a subject that has made women DM me to say 'I feel seen' and to share their most emotional stories with me. It's one that has also made wannabe online sleuths try to do some investigating like they're on CSI (please, don't even try - whatever you think is true isn't even close). The topic? Mom-group drama." Ashley, who shares daughters Jupiter, 5, and Emerson, 15 months, with husband Christopher French, explained that she first felt lucky to find a group of friends who were also pregnant during the coronavirus pandemic. However, over time, she began to question if she truly belonged in the group. "I remember being left out of a couple of group hangs, and I knew about them because Instagram made sure it fed me every single photo and Instagram Story," she continued. "I was starting to feel frozen out of the group, noticing every way that they seemed to exclude me. ... I told myself it was all in my head, and it wasn't a big deal. And yet, I could sense a growing distance between me and the other members of the group, who seemed to not even care that I wasn't around much." Christy Carlson Romano Reacts to Ashley Tisdale's Viral 'Celeb Mom Drama' Ashley said she ultimately texted the group, "This is too high school for me, and I don't want to take part in it anymore." "To be clear, I have never considered the moms to be bad people. (Maybe one.) But I do think our group dynamic stopped being healthy and positive - for me, anyway," she added. After fans began to speculate that Ashley was referring to Trainor, Duff and Moore in her essay, her rep told TMZ that this was not true. The rep also denied rumors that Ashley's fallout with the group was connected to a disagreement over politics. Us Weekly has reached out to Ashley for additional comment.
