Paltrow recently appeared on Amy Poehler's Good Hang podcast and revealed what the experience was like, without going into detail on what specific film it was. "I was supposed to do a movie at one point, and it was like right after the conscious uncoupling thing with Chris, and there was a lot of harsh stuff in the press," the Oscar winner said. "I think the distributor was like, 'This might be too hot to touch,'" she continued. "So that was great because I was getting a divorce and then I got fired off. So it was so awesome." Their divorce was finalized in 2016. In 2023, the actress opened up about how they've remained on good terms following the split and were able to co-parent their two children. "I'm still very close with my ex-husband. We've sort of morphed it into a true family. I know it sounds really weird to say, but he's kind of like my brother now. And it's hard for people to understand, but I did really make a commitment that he would stay my family, and I think we suffer a lot less because of that," she said. "I think it's incredibly painful for a woman, when you've co-mingled your DNA with a man, if you have no contact and acrimony and nothing between you. So if you're able to, transmogrify that into a different type of relationship and family. That's what we've been able to do, thank goodness." Paltrow stepped away from acting in 2019 after Avengers: Endgame and, during that time, focused on building her lifestyle brand Goop. But her role as fading movie star Kay Stone in Josh Safdie's Marty Supreme, opposite Timothée Chalamet, marks her grand return. At The Hollywood Reporter's Women in Entertainment gala earlier this month, Paltrow got choked up saying that the industry has welcomed her back.
