Brigitte Bardot's cause of death has been confirmed. Less than two weeks after the controversial French actress passed away at 91 years old, we've learned what caused her death. Ahead of her funeral on Wednesday, Brigitte's husband Bernard d'Ormale informed French magazine Paris Match that his late wife had been battling cancer - though what kind of cancer remains unclear. Prior to her death, d'Ormale revealed Brigitte underwent two surgeries an had been experiencing severe back pain. She went on to pass peacefully at her home La Madrague in Saint-Tropez, France. Of her final moments, d'Ormale told the outlet: "I never left her side. I watched over her, supported by nurses who came discreetly every day. In the morning, when I served her the breakfast she loved. Like a child, she also had her afternoon snack: tea with milk and a croissant." I sat up when I heard her say 'Pioupiou,' that little nickname we used for each other in private, and then it was over." He added: "A sense of peace and tranquility settled over her face. And she became incredibly beautiful again, just like in her youth. You wouldn't have believed she was 91." After her funeral at Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption Catholic Church in Saint-Tropez on Wednesday, Brigitte is being buried "in the strictest privacy" in a cemetery overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, according to the Associated Press. Following her death a Saint-Tropez tourist account on Facebook shared the following message: "With her presence, personality and aura, she marked the history of our town and helped to spread Saint-Tropez around the world. Beyond the star, the Tropezians will keep the memory of a woman who, more than 50 years ago, chose in full international glory to permanently settle in Saint-Tropez, La Madrague, to devote herself to the defense and protection of animals." Fondation Brigitte Bardot first broke the news of her death, revealing in a statement: "The Brigitte Bardot Foundation pays tribute to the memory of an exceptional woman who gave everything and gave up everything for a world more respectful of animals. Her legacy lives on through the actions and struggles the Foundation continues with the same passion and the same fidelity to her ideals."
