A confrontation over a parking space turned fatal over the weekend outside a Georgia Target store, and now, three small children have been left to grieve the sudden loss of their father. Matthew Traywick, 33, was fatally shot on Sunday, January 4, in the parking lot of the Target store located in Savannah. Police have not said whether he was with his children when he was shot to death. Savannah Mayor Van Johnson did claim in a Facebook post that the shooting happened during an "alleged argument over a parking dispute." Added Johnson in his post: "Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones of the victim. No disagreement over a parking space, or anything else should ever end in the loss of life." According to investigators, the shooting unfolded at approximately 4 p.m. Prior to the gunfire, witnesses told police they saw and heard two men arguing about a parking space. As the argument intensified, police allege that Tyler Linn, 30, pulled out a gun and opened fire. First responders raced to the scene to treat the dying father for multiple gunshot wounds. While he was stabilized and rushed to the nearest hospital, he later died from his injuries. Linn has been officially charged with murder and aggravated assault, the Savannah Police Department announced in a statement issued on Monday, January 5. It was unclear if he had been arraigned or asked to enter pleas to those charges. According to WTOC, Linn is an Army veteran who served between 2015 and 2023. Investigators said that Linn remained at the scene of the shooting and was arrested as soon as officers arrived at the parking lot. If convicted, Linn is looking at a possible death sentence. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched for Traywick's wife, Micayla, and their children, which, at press time, had already generated more than $105,000 in donations. "Micayla and her three young children are facing an unimaginable loss after the sudden passing of her husband, Matt," who was the sole provider for their family, according to the GoFundMe page. "Matt's unexpected death has left Micayla with the overwhelming challenge of supporting her children through both emotional and financial hardship. In the midst of their grief, the family is now confronted with immediate expenses and the uncertainty of how to manage ongoing needs without Matt's steady support. Micayla has always been a devoted mother and friend, and now she needs the support of her community more than ever." All of the money raised "will help cover urgent costs and provide a safety net for Micayla and her children as they begin to rebuild their lives," the campaign text explains. "Every donation, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference for this family as they navigate the difficult days ahead. Thank you for supporting the Traywick family during this tremendously difficult time. Please continue to pray for Micayla, the kids, and all of Matt's family and friends. Your kindness, generosity, and willingness to share this fundraiser will help bring hope and comfort to a family in need."
