When The Ghoul saw that the NCR's soldiers were only two people, he struck a deal with Lacerta to betray the NCR in exchange for Lucy's life. But before they could mount an attack, The Ghoul led Lucy away and triggered a civil war between two warring factions of the Legion. CNN Reporter Claims Walton Goggins, Aimee Lou Wood Have New Project Coming Speaking of civil wars, Maximus (Aaron Moten) was rebuffed when he suggested killing Paladin Xander Harkness (Kumail Nanjiani) of the Commonwealth. Shortly thereafter, Xander attempted to befriend Maximus and enlist his aid in preventing an armed conflict between the Commonwealth and the Brotherhood. He even enticed Maximus with a fresh suit of armor and technology beyond the level he had seen before. However, Xander revealed his dark side when the pair came across a factory comprised of children, at least half of whom were ghouls. When Maximus was unable to dissuade Xander from murdering the ghoul children, he killed Xander with his own weapon.
