Hugh Jackman is taking on one of his most gripping roles yet in The Death of Robin Hood. The action-packed trailer for the A24 film dropped on Tuesday, January 6, and showed Jackman, 57, looking completely unrecognizable in a long gray beard with matching silver locks on his head. "Would you like to know a secret?" Jackman chillingly narrates at the start of the teaser. "People speak of Robin Hood. Tell his stories. They're all lies. He was not a hero. He were a murderous brigand. We were monsters. I am the outlaw. Robin Hood." Jackman's Robin Hood is seen wielding a bow and arrow and an ax, fighting for his life in several dramatic scenes against his enemies. After sustaining severe injuries in a battle, Robin Hood looks to be rescued and healed by a woman (Jodie Comer). Amid his recovery, Robin Hood meets a little girl (Faith Delaney), who asks him to craft her a bow and arrow. "I've killed so many I could not give you a count. It's a curse," he says. "There are bad people out there. I fear our blood debts will follow her." As he searches for peace, it appears the "bad people" from Robin Hood's past threaten to come back and haunt him. Robin Hood tells the little girl, "I'll keep you safe. I will keep you safe." "Grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder, Robin Hood finds himself gravely injured after a battle he thought would be his last," per the official synopsis. You're not getting a synopsis or plot of the entire movie, but it perfect [sic] gives you a setting and a vibe." "Looks like a cross between Logan, The Northman, and Unforgiven," a second person wrote, while a third person said, "You already know Hugh Jackman is gonna kill it." Another fan predicted the film could get Jackman his long-awaited Oscar. The Wolverine star received his first nomination for an Academy Award in 2013 for Best Actor in the musical film Les Misérables. (Daniel Day-Lewis earned the trophy for Lincoln that year.) Currently, Jackman is an Oscar away from earning EGOT status. The Greatest Showman actor generated Oscar buzz with his latest musical film, Song Sung Blue, in which he stars with Kate Hudson. The pair portray real-life musical duo Mike and Claire Sardina, who performed as the Neil Diamond tribute band Lightning & Thunder. Jackman predicted Song Sung Blue would win big at the 2026 Oscars. "Kate Hudson is not only one of the great stars of our business, she is a consummate actor," he said while accepting the inaugural Musical Tribute trophy at the Gotham Awards in New York City last month. "I believe this time she is going to get an Oscar."
