Although the original Breaking Amish ended in 2014, fans have continued to stay interested in the casts' lives through the years. The TLC show, which aired in 2012, initially followed the lives of five young Anabaptist adults - Kate Stoltz, Jeremiah Raber, Abe Schmucker, Rebecca Schmucker and Sabrina Burkholder - as they moved to New York City to decide whether they wanted to break out of their community or ultimately return home. The original cast returned for a second season in 2013, however, the series returned with an entirely new cast for Breaking Amish: Los Angeles later that year. Season 4, which was called Breaking Amish: Brooklyn, aired in 2014. While the Breaking Amish series ended in 2014, a spinoff show with the original cast, Return to Amish, premiered on TLC that same year. Return to Amish aired for seven seasons up until May 2023. 'Breaking Amish' Alum Mama Mary Schmucker in Hospice Amid Cancer Battle In April 2024, InTouch Weekly reported that Raber spent two days in the hospital for heart issues and diabetic ketoacidosis. (The Cleveland Clinic describes diabetic ketoacidosis as "a life-threatening complication of diabetes and undiagnosed Type 1 diabetes.") At the end of 2025, Raber revealed on social media that he was in the hospital for "possible liver failure" and was "waiting to be life flighted to another hospital." Burkholder struggled with drug addiction following the end of the original series. In 2018, Burkholder suffered a near-fatal heroin overdose and has been sober ever since. "People say I don't look like the same person; that's because I'm not," she explained in a June 2021 Instagram post. "Jesus done a work and I'm so grateful for sobriety."
