Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has not announced whether he will return for the 2026 season, but his teammates seem prepared to bid him farewell. After the Chiefs fell, 14-12, to the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, January 4, officially ending their season with a 6-11 record, Kansas City players made it a point to acknowledge Kelce, 36, in the locker room. "Man, thank you," third-string quarterback Chris Oladokun told Kelce while extending his hand, according to a story from the Kansas City Star on Sunday. Linebacker Cole Christiansen added, "Whatever happens, it's been an honor playing with you." Travis Kelce Reflects on What Could Have Been Final Home Game for Chiefs Longtime teammate Chris Jones also approached Kelce in the locker room, but took a more lighthearted approach "Thank you for everything," Jones, 31, said jokingly, before the two shared a laugh. "This guy, man," Kelce said, with the Star describing his tone as "the equivalent of an eye-roll." While questions about Kelce's future continue to linger, Jones told the media that he thinks the tight end will return. "I'm not buying it. He'll be back next year," Jones said in the postgame press conference, before conceding, "I can't promise you anything about another man." Travis Kelce Addresses Retirement Speculation After Super Bowl Loss Kelce has spent his entire 13-year career with the Chiefs, compiling a Hall of Fame resume with three Super Bowl rings and 11 consecutive Pro Bowl designations. If he does not return for the 2026 season, Kelce will retire as the franchise's all-time leader in career receiving yards, receptions, touchdown receptions and total touchdowns. Kelce, for his part, spoke with the media after the game, where he said he wasn't sure what he would decide. "Who knows?" he said. "Who knows, it either hits me quick or I gotta take some time. Last year, it was a little bit easier. I think I knew right away, I wanted to give this [year] a shot. We'll see." He added, "I've got so much love for this team, this organization and the people here, so I'll spend some time with them, go through exit meetings tomorrow and get close to the family and figure things out." Kelce also said that despite the Chiefs' record, he was encouraged by how the team ended the year in the aftermath of quarterback Patrick Mahomes' season-ending injury on December 14. "I'm proud of the way we finished, even though it ended the way it did," he said. "Guys showed up, gave it their all, and that's all you can ask for." Travis' brother, Jason Kelce, went through the back-and-forth of a retirement decision himself before he called it a career after 13 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. He retired in 2024 and is now part of ESPN's Monday Night Countdown broadcast crew. Jason, 38, said during a December broadcast that he was "curious" about his brother's decision. "In my opinion, to nail that decision, you have to step away from the game for a little bit," he added. "Play these last three games, enjoy them with your teammates, enjoy them with your coaches. The team's going to be different no matter whether you come back or not next year."
