During his sentencing on Tuesday, December 30, Jalin White learned he'll be spending the next 12 years behind prison bars. But first, the 22-year-old Milwaukee father spoke softly, expressing regret for his actions on November 5, 2024, when he threw his infant son against a wall as he was losing the video game NBA 2K. "My intentions was never to hurt my baby boy," White said in court, according to video footage from the proceedings, shared by FOX 6. "Everything just happened so quick. I made a mistake; my mind was moving fast." The baby survived the impact with a fractured skull and brain hemorrhaging, according to court filings obtained by Us Weekly. Doctors who treated the child, identified only as "JW" in court papers, said that the boy's left clavicle and several of his ribs were still healing from previous fractures. Today, the child apparently lives with vision problems, relies on a feeding tube to survive, and requires weekly care from multiple specialists. White said that he can't remember everything that happened that night but that he wanted to take full responsibility for his actions. White pleaded guilty to physical abuse of a child recklessly causing great bodily harm and neglecting a child causing great bodily harm. The Milwaukee County Prosecutor's Office confirmed that White was additionally sentenced to seven years of extended supervision following his release from prison. Initially, investigators couldn't get a straight story out of White, who kept changing different aspects of his account of what occurred. At times, he said the baby smacked his head against a doorframe while at others, he said the infant was hurt in a fall. In time, though, White admitted that he picked up the boy while playing a video game to "keep him chill for a little bit," according to court records. White told cops he was playing a "competitive" game of NBA 2K but not faring well. "[White] was down 2 points in the fourth quarter of the game and became frustrated while holding [his son], ultimately throwing [his son] against the wall," according to the initial criminal complaint. "You have one of the most innocent of innocent victims in our community hurt by the very person who under the law should protect them and keep them safe and then attempts to cover up his actions," prosecutor Matthew Torbenson said during the sentencing.
