Actor-rapper Will Smith has been accused of serious misconduct after violinist Brian King Joseph filed a civil lawsuit on December 31, 2025, in a Los Angeles court, alleging sexual harassment, retaliation, and wrongful termination. Joseph, who performed with Smith during his Based on a True Story 2025 tour, has also named Treyball Studios Management in his lawsuit. As per reports, Joseph was hired by Smith in November 2024 to perform at a San Diego show. He was also invited to be a part of Smith's tour. As per court documents reviewed by Variety, Joseph's lawsuit stated that Will kept making comments suggesting a personal bond as they spent more time together. One of those comments included, "You and I have such a special connection that I don't have with anyone else." The complaint centres on an incident that allegedly took place during the first leg of the tour in March last year. Hotel accommodations were arranged for the touring group, during which Joseph claimed that his bag containing his room key went missing for several hours before being returned by management. He alleged that members of the management team were the "only individuals with access to [his] room." Joseph further alleged that upon returning to his room, he noticed signs of unauthorised entry and found several items left behind, including wipes, a bottle of HIV medication with another person's name, and a handwritten note that read, "Brian, I'll be back no later [sic] 5:30, just us (drawn heart), Stone F." According to the lawsuit, Joseph interpreted the note as a warning that an unknown individual intended to return to his room to engage in sexual activity with him. He claimed that he immediately contacted hotel security and informed Smith's representatives, and later reported the matter to a non-emergency police line. The filing further alleges that a few days after the incident, a member of the management team accused Joseph of fabricating the claims. He was subsequently informed that his services were no longer required on the tour. Joseph claims that his termination resulted in severe emotional distress, post-traumatic stress disorder, and financial losses. The lawsuit accuses Smith of "predatory behaviour" and alleges that he engaged in "grooming and priming" Joseph for further sexual exploitation.
