The New Year brings plenty of new things: resolutions, jobs, relations, etc. But some things remain the same, and one of those things is finding a great movie to watch. Watch With Us is always on the hunt for great movies to stream, particularly thrillers, and we found four great ones to watch on New Year's Day. At Netflix, Caught Stealing with Austin Butler and Zodiac with Jake Gyllenhaal are sure to provide as many thrills as anyone could want. Not to be outdone, Prime Video has a pair of thrillers, Black Bag with Cate Blanchett and Drop, that rank as some of 2025's best suspense stories. 'Caught Stealing' (2025) - Netflix When New York City bartender Hank (Butler) agrees to cat-sit neighbor Russ' (Matt Smith) pet feline, Bud, he thinks he's in for an easy time. But when two Russian mobsters come looking for a mysterious key that he doesn't know about, Hank quickly realizes he has more problems than where to empty the kitty litter. With his girlfriend Yvonne's (Zoƫ Kravitz) help, Hank evades both the cops and the mafia while trying desperately to find the key that everyone seems to want. 5 Best Netflix Movies to Watch on New Year's Eve Caught Stealing is an intriguing blend of thrills, action and '90s nostalgia, all blended in an entertaining cocktail that's impossible to resist. Directed by Black Swan filmmaker Darren Aronofsky, the film is surprisingly light most of the time, even if some characters lose a vital organ or even their life. With a great supporting cast that includes Regina King, Bad Bunny, Vincent D'Onofrio, Carol Kane and Laura Dern, Caught Stealing is one of 2025's hidden gems, and a great way to begin 2026. 'Black Bag' (2025) - Prime Video Londoner George Woodhouse (Michael Fassbender) is good at his job as a high-ranking British intelligence officer, but he's even better as a husband to Kathryn (Cate Blanchett), who works at the same place. When George is assigned to locate and terminate a mole within the agency, one of the suspects is Kathryn. George loves his wife, but can he really trust her? And if she's as innocent as she claims, why would anyone want to set her up? Black Bag didn't quite catch on with audiences last spring, but critics loved it, and you will, too. It's an intelligent, adult thriller about the games people play with each other, both in and out of the bedroom. As the married spies who could prove to be each other's fatal flaw, Fassbender and Blanchett are terrific, and the film itself is shot in muted, warm colors that make it an unexpectedly intimate and cozy thriller. 'Drop' (2025) - Prime Video Dating is difficult enough, but for single mom Violet Gates (Meghann Fahy), it's pure hell when a blind date turns into a fight for her life. Things look promising when she agrees to a dinner date with studly photographer Henry (Brandon Sklenar) at a fancy restaurant in the city. But her dream date soon turns into a nightmare when she receives "Digi-Drops" from an anonymous source that demands she poison Henry or else her son will be killed. Violet will have to make a hard choice - murder an innocent person or let her only child die. A minor hit when it was released last spring, Drop squeezes as much suspense from its high-concept premise as possible. For most of its 95-minute runtime, the movie is incredibly intense as you watch Violet try to find a way out of her seemingly impossible predicament. It helps that The White Lotus vet Fahy makes Violet into more than a damsel in distress. Her mean mamma packs a surprising punch, and by the end, you're left fearing for the bad guy's safety instead of hers. 'Zodiac' (2007) - Netflix How do you make a thriller about a serial killer who has never been caught? That was the challenge director David Fincher took on when he made Zodiac, a journalistic thriller that examines the strange real-life case of the Zodiac Killer. In late 1969 and the early 1970s, a series of violent assaults and murders in San Francisco cause terror among the populace - and confusion among the police tasked to solve the case. When political cartoonist Robert Graysmith (Gyllenhaal) thinks he can decipher the Zodiac Killer's meticulously worded clues, both the cops and the press think the killer will finally be caught. But this serial killer proves to be as elusive as he is dangerous, and the case starts to get cold as the years progress. 20 Must-Watch Thrillers on Netflix Right Now (December 2025) Zodiac is a rare, great thriller that doesn't have a satisfying ending. It can't, because the real-life case didn't have one either. Instead, it has an appropriate conclusion that's equal parts terrifying and frustrating. Frequently cited as one of the best movies of the 21st century, Zodiac boasts top-tier filmmaking from Fincher, who showcases his now-trademark mastery of the camera, and great acting from its stacked ensemble, which includes Robert Downey Jr. as a cynical reporter and Mark Ruffalo as a fed-up cop.
