A woman in Tennessee has been charged with attempted first-degree murder after police accused her of intentionally striking her ex-boyfriend with her SUV and running him over multiple times as he tried to escape her. The incident took place around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 27, on Gilleas Road in Memphis, Tennessee. Authorities claimed that Tanieka Ray used her SUV to run over her ex-boyfriend several times, according to Action 5 News. When the man was first hit by the vehicle, he slipped and stumbled into a neighbor's yard. Investigators said that a neighbor heard a wild disturbance outside his home, so he looked outside to see Ray repeatedly making U-turns while the man was on the ground, yelling. The neighbor, who was identified as Carlos Brantley, went on to claim to police that he heard Ray saying, "she was going to run him over again and was going to kill him." The victim told officers that after Ray initially struck him with the vehicle, she continued to run him over three to four more times after he fell while trying to leave the property. Meanwhile, the neighbor said that Ray sped off after the attack before she crashed the SUV into a utility pole in front of a house down the road. After Ray crashed her car, she got out of the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. Police said that she was later found in south Memphis at a residence on East Davant Avenue. She was taken into custody and Brantley managed to identify Ray in a six-person lineup, according to authorities. Tennessee Teen Shot and Killed by Ex-Boyfriend Shortly After Split After the injured man was found propped up against a fence, he was brought onto the neighbor's porch and stayed there until police arrived. He was then transported to the hospital in critical condition, where he was treated for multiple fractures. The victim - whose name has not been publicly shared - suffered broken bones and several dislocated body parts, according to WREG. The outlet added that his injuries were so severe, they required surgery. Following Ray's arrest, Brantley spoke to WREG about witnessing the incident. "She almost killed him, man, broke both his hips, broke one of his legs," he said. "You know he's in bad shape, but he's going to be alright." "I was sitting in the house and heard some kind of ruckus out here and I said, 'Let me see what's going on' and by the time I get outside, I see my neighbor, Arthur," he recalled. "He was laying in my driveway and laying down like he couldn't get up and I rushed out, gave him some aid. As I was doing that, the perpetrator was currently going up and down the street, taunting us." Former 'The Voice' Contestant Arrested on Vehicular Homicide Warrant Brantley said he did his best to "drag him out of danger" before he called 911. "I flagged his brother down, his brother came and helped me, took him on the porch to get him out of harm's way," Brantley said. "During that, the girl kept going up and down the street until she finally hit the light pole and knocked the lights out and almost blew up the whole block. I'm talking about everything was lit up." While it's not currently clear why Ray hit the victim with her car several times, Brantley proposed she maybe didn't take their breakup so well. "I guess she was trying to get back with him, and he just didn't want to have any dealings with her no more, and she just went crazy," he told the outlet. Tay is still currently in jail, according to online court records viewed by Us Weekly. It's not currently clear if she has entered a plea or obtained legal representation.
