And even with dramas that focus on heavy subject matter, at least you've got your favorite actors playing characters you know and love. But every once and a while, your favorite TV show can leave you devastated when a beloved character dies unexpectedly... Tap to play GIF Tap to play GIF AMC / Via giphy.com Or, as in the case of The Walking Dead, when the series kills off nearly every character in the entire franchise. The audience is gagged (like Joffrey on Game of Thrones), and your relationship with the show is forever changed. HBO GoT never quite hit its stride again post-Joffrey IMHO. Here are some TV deaths that I'm still personally victimized by over 20 years later: ABC #NotPennysBoat 1. Adriana La Cerva (The Sopranos) HBO In a show as brutal and testosterone-heavy as The Sopranos, Christopher Moltisanti's (Michael Imperioli) girlfriend Adriana (Drea de Matteo) was always a breath of fresh air. However, in Season 3, Adriana is targeted by the FBI as a potential mole following the death of their previous mole, Big Pussy (Vincent Pastore). After watching numerous cast members get whacked on the HBO drama, fans were immediately fearful for Adriana's life. Still, it wasn't until Season 5 that her fate was finally sealed when Christopher turned her over to Tony. In a performance that won Drea de Matteo an Emmy, Adriana is driven by Silvio (Steven Van Zandt) into the woods, where she meets her end. 2. Omar Little (The Wire) HBO Over five seasons of The Wire, the late Michael K. Williams portrayed Omar Little, who frequently robbed Baltimore drug dealers while wearing his infamous duster jacket. Michael K. Williams' performance has been hailed as one of the best in TV history, and Omar's sexual identity made his presence especially groundbreaking. In the show's final season, Omar was taken out, not by the cops or a rival drug dealer, but by a child, who shoots him in the head while he's robbing a convenience store. While certainly not shocking given the show's subject matter, how Omar dies has long been a talking point for fans. 3. Dr. Robert Ford (Westworld) HBO When Sir Anthony Hopkins signed up to play a main character in HBO's robot-centric sci-fi extravaganza, we should have known that he likely wouldn't make it out of Season 1 alive. He plays the park's founder, Robert Ford, who presides over Westworld's many android "hosts." But he is murdered in the season finale by Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) as she leads an uprising against the humans. While Anthony Hopkins does show up again in Season 2, his shocking death busted the series wide open. 4. Jack Pearson (This Is Us) (C)NBC/Courtesy Everett Collection Never has there been a more famous Crock-Pot than the one that killed Jack Pearson (Milo Ventimiglia) on This Is Us. The series set up Jack's death from the very beginning. But it wasn't until Season 2's episode, entitled "Super Bowl Sunday" (which actually aired immediately after the Super Bowl), that audiences finally learned just how Jack died. It turns out that a faulty Crock-Pot caused the Pearson home to catch fire, and Jack's quest to save the family dog ended with him losing his life. 5. George O'Malley (Grey's Anatomy) (C)ABC/Courtesy Everett Collection Few shows have boasted more deaths than Grey's Anatomy, which has managed to kill off Seattle Grace patients and staff in nearly every ridiculous manner you can think of. The series's first major death, however, came when George (T.R. Knight) died in the Season 6 premiere. The hospital staff is working on John Doe, severely injured in a bus accident, when they realize that the disfigured patient is none other than George. The way George died stemmed directly from T.R. Knight's exit from the show and the writers' need to find a way to kill him off without the actor's presence. 6. Ned Stark (Game of Thrones) HBO Like Grey's Anatomy, Game of Thrones is chock-full of major character deaths (the Red Wedding, Joffrey's poisoning, and Pedro Pascal's head imploding), but none looms as large as Ned Stark's death (Sean Bean). The Winterfell patriarch served as the main character of Season 1 only to be beheaded by the Lannisters in Episode 9, leaving his family to fend for themselves. While readers of the George R. R. Martin book series knew that Ned wouldn't last long, TV viewers were shocked that the series would cut its lead so quickly. 7. Mr. Big (Sex and the City/And Just Like That) Craig Blankenhorn/HBO "And just like that, Big died." So ends the premiere of the Sex and the City spinoff, And Just L
