Robert Redford Dominique Charriau / Getty Images The actor died at the age of 89 on Sept. 16 at his mountain home in Sundance, Utah. The Oscar winner was known for his roles in films including Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting, All the President's Men, and The Natural. Cindi Berger, chairman and CEO of Rogers & Cowen PMK, told People that he died in "the place he loved, surrounded by those he loved." He is survived by his wife, Sibylle Szaggars, and two of his children, Shauna and Amy. 2. Diane Keaton Jon Kopaloff / Getty Images The family of the Oscar-winning actress shared that Diane had died at the age of 79 on Oct. 11 in California. Most known for her role in Annie Hall, she also starred in films like The Godfather trilogy, Father of the Bride, and The First Wives Club. She is survived by her daughter and son, Dexter and Duke. 3. Rob and Michele Singer Reiner Michael Buckner / Getty Images On Dec. 14, the beloved actor-director was found dead alongside his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, in their Los Angeles home. It has since been confirmed that their son, Nick, was arrested and charged with their murders. Rob, 78, had his breakout acting role in the 1970s sitcom All in the Family, and made cameos in The Wolf of Wall Street, Sleepless in Seattle, and New Girl. Perhaps more well-known than his acting career, he directed films including When Harry Met Sally..., This Is Spinal Tap, Stand by Me, The Princess Bride, Misery, and A Few Good Men. 4. Ozzy Osbourne Dave Hogan / Getty Images The Black Sabbath frontman and reality TV personality died at the age of 76 on July 22. "He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time," Ozzy's family announced. On July 5, the rock star performed a farewell concert with Black Sabbath in Birmingham, which included tribute videos and performances by other rock legends, such as Metallica and Guns N' Roses, to pay homage to Ozzy's iconic career. 5. Gene Hackman Ron Davis / Getty Images The Oscar-winning actor and his wife of 30 years, Betsy Arakawa, were found dead in their New Mexico home on Feb. 26, along with one of their dogs. On March 7, authorities revealed that Betsy had died from hantavirus (a flulike virus linked to rodent droppings), while Gene died a week later from a combination of severe heart disease, high blood pressure, and advanced Alzheimer's disease. Gene was most known for his roles as Popeye Doyle in The French Connection, Sheriff Little Bill Daggett in Unforgiven, Lex Luthor in Superman (1978), Royal Tenenbaum in The Royal Tenenbaums, and the coach in Hoosiers. 6. Val Kilmer Rob Loud / Getty Images At the age of 65, the actor died from pneumonia on April 1, as his daughter, Mercedes, told the New York Times. She shared that he had previously been diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014, but that he had recovered. Val's career included iconic roles in films like Top Gun, Batman Forever, The Doors, and Heat, with his final film appearance being in Top Gun: Maverick in 2022. On April 2, his Top Gun costar, Anthony Edwards, told People, "Val Kilmer, in a lifetime as an artist, created work that touched so many in so many mediums. Hoping he is at peace." 7. D'Angelo Lionel Flusin / Getty Images The soul legend died in New York City on Oct. 14, after secretly battling pancreatic cancer. Born Michael Eugene Archer, the neo-soul pioneer was 51 when he died, and his family confirmed his death in a statement to Variety, saying, "We are saddened that he can only leave dear memories with his family, but we are eternally grateful for the legacy of extraordinarily moving music he leaves behind. We ask that you respect our privacy during this difficult time but invite you all join us in mourning his passing while also celebrating the gift of song that he has left for the world." D'Angelo is survived by his two sons and daughter, Michael Archer Jr., Morocco, and Imani. 8.
