One woman was ready to head into surgery last week when her insurance company suddenly threw a major wrench in the plans and denied it - hours before it was supposed to begin! A TikToker who goes by @westcoastwild_ posted a video on Saturday of herself in a hospital bed, explaining that she was supposed to undergo a "radical hysterectomy" years after her stage four endometriosis and frozen pelvis diagnosis. She's already dressed in a hospital gown and cap. She's hooked up to an IV. The woman was all set to go at that point, and all she should've had to do was remain calm, relax, and wait for the operation to begin at 12:05. Four hours before, the insurance company DENIED her surgery! According to the content creator, her doctor "sent in the prior auth over three weeks ago, as well as a ton of notes about why this is medically necessary." The surgeon did everything right, but United Healthcare allegedly waited until the eleventh hour to determine that her procedure wasn't medically necessary and needed to undergo further review. WTF! She explained: "United Healthcare has denied my preauthorization for my radical hysterectomy and treatment for my very severe endometriosis, pretty much four hours before my surgery is supposed to start. I'm already here at the hospital. I'm already set up. I got my IV going, and my surgery is scheduled for 12:05. Apparently, United Healthcare can't meet with my doctor, my surgeon, until noon, and they're requiring to do a peer-to-peer review of the needs for my surgery because they are deeming it not medically necessary." The surgery is very necessary, though! The social media personality shared that her battle with endometriosis and frozen pelvis has caused a lot of problems with her health: "To be clear, I was diagnosed with severe endometriosis, stage 4, and frozen pelvis back in 2018, which I didn't even know that I had after asking many, many doctors for help until we tried to have kids. When I started doing IVF, and we realized, 'Oh my gosh, you have really advanced endometriosis.' My uterus is pretty much fused to both my bladder and my bowel. It's called frozen pelvis. Everything on my insides have been stuck together for years, which caused significant back pain, cramps, heavy periods." Oof... It is a much-needed surgery to end her pain and suffering, but United Healthcare doesn't see it that way. So, she was left waiting until "the last minute" to know if they would even proceed with the surgery. And what's worse? Her fate was in the hands of an insurance doctor who knew absolutely nothing about her or her medical history, which is incredibly frustrating, understandably so, to her: "I know I'm not the only person out there who's had to deal with insurance companies and all the crap that's going on, but it's astonishing to me that this is the world we live in and that insurance is doing this mostly for money. I rely on a doctor from an insurance company who's never met me, who's never felt my bowels, who's never felt anything, or talk to me, or has any idea about my experience is out there making a decision for me after I've spent a full day on a liquid diet, doing a bowel prep, haven't eaten nothing like that. I'm already hooked up. What are they gonna do? This is crazy." It's so unfair and ridiculous to cause this woman so much stress and worry only hours before her surgery. Not only that, it shouldn't be this hard to get a surgery that her own doctors, who provide actual care, unlike insurance companies, agreed she needed. Absolutely awful. Watch the video (below): @westcoastwild_ To say I'm outraged is putting it lightly. My doctor sent in the prior auth over three weeks ago, as well as a ton of notes about why this is medically necessary. To get a sudden denial the morning of surgery is INSANE. ♬ original sound - westcoastwild_???? Fortunately, this story does come with good news. The woman gave a quick update the following day and revealed they approved the surgery! She DID get it! Phew! She said: "At the very last minute, they agreed to go forward and authorize the surgery for my surgeon. It was a long day for everybody, but I'm grateful that they were able to get it done. Everybody who commented and sent their best thoughts, I'm really grateful." @westcoastwild_ ♬ original sound - westcoastwild_???? We're glad it happened, and everything went well. We just wish she didn't have to go through all that stress and aggravation right beforehand. Can't be good for healing! Sending her love as she continues to recover! Reactions, Perezcious readers?
