HBO Max is the home of some A-list films, but even many of its best movies fail to reach the 90 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes. The reality is that the vast majority of all movies fall well below that high-water mark. So it's only fitting that we honor the films that pull it off. Watch With Us has selected the three new HBO Max movies with at least 90 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Our picks this month include an all-time great mockumentary, a historical drama and an over-the-top comedy. New on HBO Max in December 2025 - The Full List of Movies and TV Shows 'This Is Spinal Tap' (1984) Rotten Tomatoes Score: 98 percent This movie would have made the list even if director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, hadn't been murdered this week. This Is Spinal Tap is one of the best films of Reiner's career and a hilarious send-up of all of the music biopics that came before it. Reiner directed the flick and stars as documentary filmmaker Martin "Marty" Di Bergi, the man who wants to chronicle the story of the rock band Spinal Tap. David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean), Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest) and Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer) are the core members of the group, with Mick Shrimpton (R. J. Parnell) as the latest drummer following the inexplicable fates of his predecessors. Collectively, the band is fueled by ego and hubris, as well as an inability to understand why and how they appeal to their fans in the first place. They embody all of the worst excesses of a celebrity rock star, and yet they were so popular in real life that the actors reunited for concerts, special appearances and even a sequel. This Is Spinal Tap is streaming on HBO Max. 'Hidden Figures' (2017) Rotten Tomatoes Score: 93 percent Hidden Figures and the original book by Margot Lee Shetterly performed a public service by throwing the spotlight on Katherine Goble Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle MonĂ¡e). This trio of Black women were gifted mathematicians who played integral roles at NASA during the earliest days of the Space Race, yet their accomplishments weren't widely known among the general public before the book and the movie. 7 Stars Who Found Fame Later In Life: Kathy Bates, Samuel L. Jackson, Jane Lynch and More This film depicts the challenges and the racism that the women encountered, even as NASA used them as living computers. There are a handful of men who treat these ladies with the respect they deserve, including astronaut John Glenn (Glen Powell) and the leader of the Space Task Group, Al Harrison (Kevin Costner). But it's still an uphill battle for them to constantly prove that they belong among the best engineers in the world for a mission that can reshape the Space Race. Hidden Figures is streaming on HBO Max. 'Girls Trip' (2017) Rotten Tomatoes Score: 91 percent Girls Trip did a lot to make Tiffany Haddish a star, but she's not only the standout cast member in this wild comedy. Regina Hall leads the cast as Ryan Pierce, a woman who is on the verge of achieving Oprah-like success. To reconnect with her best friends, Ryan invites Dina (Haddish), Lisa Miller Cooper (Jada Pinkett Smith) and Sasha Franklin (Queen Latifah) for a special trip to New Orleans that may determine her future. These women know how to enjoy themselves, but the fact that Ryan's husband, Stewart Pierce (Mike Colter), is cheating on her may derail both the trip and Ryan's professional ambitions in the lifestyle arena. Each of her friends is also at a crossroads in their lives that may only get worse if they start fighting each other and lose track of why they were friends in the first place. Girls Trip is streaming on HBO Max.
