Three young adults in Austin, Texas, have been arrested and charged with child abandonment after they left an 11-month-old baby alone in a vehicle for several hours in 36-degree weather so that they could go to different bars. The suspects in the case have been identified as Gabrielle Aleman, Jaslyn Tovar and Isaiah Calvo, according to an arrest affidavit viewed by KXAN. Aleman, 22, Tovar, 21, and Calvo, 25, were out for a night on the town when police officers noticed them violating pedestrian traffic laws, according to the affidavit. Aleman and Calvo kept walking, which led the officers to confront them. Aleman and Calvo ignored the officer's demands to stop as the police called after them to "come here." In response, one officer caught up to them and told them they were being detained. The affidavit noted that Calvo complied, though Aleman attempted to walk away until another officer caught up with her. However, she wouldn't comply and was given an additional charge of resisting arrest. Aleman was also charged with resisting arrest, with the affidavit noting that the officers had a hard time detaining her. Aleman, Tovar, and Calvo were ultimately taken to the Travis County Jail "without communicating or reporting anything of note to any of the several Austin Police Officers they came into contact with during this event." The Austin Police Department received a call about an hour later from Aleman's aunt, stating that her niece had been arrested after she left her infant child in a vehicle in downtown Austin. Officers set out to find the vehicle as Aleman, Tovar and Calvo remained at the jail to answer questions. The baby was later located downtown, and officers broke a window of the vehicle in order to get the baby out, according to the affidavit. Austin Travis County Emergency Medical Services examined the child, determining that there were no obvious injuries and the baby didn't need to go to the hospital. However, it was determined that the vehicle was not an appropriate environment for the baby to be in and that it was just 36 degrees Fahrenheit at the time of the incident. As police interviewed the suspects, it was revealed that they created a plan to monitor the child via FaceTime as they were out at the bars. The baby was left without "appropriate winter clothing," and the affidavit noted that the baby was pinned under an improperly anchored car seat in the vehicle. The Austin Police Department did not immediately respond to Us Weekly's request for comment. It is not currently clear if Aleman, Tovar, and Calvo have obtained legal representation or if they have entered pleas to the charges they are facing. Meanwhile, it has also not yet been announced if they are facing charges for leaving the baby alone in the car.
