Nick Reiner was struggling with his mental health after being diagnosed with schizophrenia. On Sunday, Nick's parents Rob and Michele were found dead in their home, horrible crimes for which he has been arrested. Now, an insider for TMZ is revealing he was diagnosed with schizophrenia, and in the weeks leading up to the murders, changes in his medication were causing him to be "erratic and dangerous." Oh, no. Two sources told the outlet on Friday that the 32-year-old was under the care of a psychiatrist for mental illness. The fancy facility costs $70,000 a month, and apparently it's the spot for Hollywood's wealthiest kids in need. Rob and Michele really did everything they could... Unfortunately, despite all this, he just couldn't shake his demons. In the month before the killings, his behavior grew "alarming." About 3 to 4 weeks before the murders, doctors changed his medication - which only made everything worse as he crew more erratic. The insiders claimed his medical team was trying to adjust his meds to help stabilize him, but it had the opposite effect. One source explained that everything took a turn for the worse when the medication was switched: "Nick was out of his head." This has got to be one of the "complex" factors of the case his lawyer hinted at earlier this week. Nick will be arraigned on January 7. It's now believed he will plead not guilty by reason of insanity because of this diagnosis, though his high-powered lawyer, Alan Jackson, has yet to confirm or deny this. The attorney was reportedly hired by Nick's relatives using his parents' estate money. It's said they would prefer to see the alleged killer in a mental institution rather than be incarcerated - or worse, get the death penalty. According to an unnamed celebrity friend, the night before his death, Rob expressed being "petrified" of his son and "afraid" he could "hurt" him. Another insider previously claimed prescription drugs had "messed with [Nick's] head." It's just gut-wrenching. For resources on mental health, visit https://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/find-help.
