Valente was found dead Thursday night at a storage facility in Salem, New Hampshire, with authorities saying he died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Investigators recovered firearms, a satchel, and evidence allegedly linking him to the deadly Brown University shooting, which left two students dead and nine others injured. Officials stated there is no longer a threat to the public. "Earlier this evening, law enforcement tracked Neves Valente to a Salem, New Hampshire storage unit," the Rhode Island Attorney General's Office revealed in a statement. "After obtaining a federal search warrant for the unit, authorities entered and found Neves Valente deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound." Valente Suspected In Both Brown, MIT DeathsAs the investigation unfolded, authorities revealed Valente was also responsible for the killing of MIT professor Nuno F.G. Loureiro, who was found shot to death at his Massachusetts home just days after the Brown attack. Prosecutors said Valente and Loureiro attended the same academic program in Portugal between 1995 and 2000, though it remains unclear whether the killing was targeted. Surveillance footage and other evidence helped connect Valente to both crimes.
Authorities Still Unsure Why Brown Was TargetedDespite narrowing down how the crimes unfolded, officials say Valente's motive remains a mystery. Investigators believe he acted alone and had no plans for additional attacks, but why Brown University was targeted is still unknown. "In terms of why Brown, that is a mystery," Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha said. He added that authorities hope more clarity emerges as the investigation continues.RELATED: Authorities Reportedly Identify Suspects Following Mass Shooting At Bondi Beach Hanukkah Celebration (VIDEOS) The post UPDATE: Suspected Brown University & MIT Professor Shooter Found Dead In New Hampshire (VIDEOS) appeared first on The Shade Room.
