Former NASCAR driver Greg Biffle surprised a fan with a new car and $1,200, according to a video he uploaded via Instagram just five days before his death at age 55. "🎉🎉We have called and spoken to the winner of the Corvette + $1200 congrats to Brandon P from Alabama!," he wrote in the caption on Saturday, December 13. "Thanks so much for sharing the videos this Biffmas can't wait for next year !!" In the accompanying video, Biffle is parked at a gas station, where he takes out his phone and calls the lucky winner. "Hey man, how's it going?" he asks when the winner answers. "This is Greg Biffle." NASCAR Driver Greg Biffle's Fatal Plane Crash: Everything We Know So Far The video ends before Biffle can reveal that the individual had won. A play on Christmas, Biffmas was exactly what it sounds like - an annual giveaway from Biffle to his fans. The NASCAR great died on Thursday, December 18, when his plane crashed while attempting to land at Statesville Regional Airport. His wife, Cristina, and two kids, daughter Emma and son Ryder, were also killed in the crash. It is not known if Greg was piloting the plane at the time of the crash. Politician Recalls Final Conversation With Greg Biffle's Wife Cristina The crash occurred around 10:15 a.m. ET, with airport officials confirming there were fatalities shortly after. Family friend Garrett Mitchell, better known by his social media alter ego, Cleetus McFarland, was first to reveal that the family was on board. "Unfortunately, I can confirm Greg Biffle, his wife Cristina, daughter Emma and son Ryder were on that plane...because they were on their way to spend the afternoon with us," he wrote via Facebook on Thursday. "We are devastated. I'm so sorry to share this." North Carolina congressman Richard Hudson, a family friend, confirmed Mitchell's report. "I am devastated by the loss of Greg, Cristina, and their children, and my heart is with all who loved them," he wrote via X. "They were friends who lived their lives focused on helping others. Greg was a great NASCAR champion who thrilled millions of fans. But he was an extraordinary person as well, and will be remembered for his service to others as much as for his fearlessness on the track." Who Was Greg Biffle? What to Know About the NASCAR Legend Whose Plane Crashed A cause for the plane crash has not been revealed, but Flight Aware data shows the plane took off from the airport at around 10 a.m. before turning around and trying to return. AccuWeather reports there was "adverse" weather at the time. "Heavy drizzle and a cloud ceiling near 1,200 feet were reported at 10:15 a.m. The cloud ceiling had reportedly lowered to around 400 feet, with heavy rain reducing visibility to less than 2 miles at 10:30 a.m.," AccuWeather's vice president of forecasting operations, Dan DePodwin, said in a press release. "Weather conditions are often a critical factor that investigators carefully review after a plane crash. It may take months to a year or longer for investigators to determine if the weather conditions contributed to the crash." In addition to his prolific motorsports career, Biffle has long spoken about his love for aviation. "I sold all my aviation stuff, but I love aviation," he said on Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s "Dirty Mo Media" podcast in February. "I sold everything [but] I own the hanger at the Statesville Airport, which Victory Air leases."
