A Kansas mother who has been formally charged with killing her 4-year-old son appeared to have a physical reaction to the allegations during a court appearance Wednesday, December 17. Tyne Blunt, 27, gasped for air and clutched at her chest as the judge outlined the first-degree murder and two counts of child abuse charges she faces stemming from her alleged involvement in the death of her son, Tiuri Blunt-Porrata. Wichita Police were summoned to Blunt's apartment the afternoon of December 8 and arrived to find Tiuri unresponsive. Tiuri was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition and pronounced dead soon after arrival. Along with Blunt, Daniel Martin, 34, faces charges for the role authorities say he played in the boy's murder. He is charged with felony murder and child abuse. According to KWCH, detectives who were looking into the boy's death zeroed in on the couple, and soon, an arrest warrant was sought for Blunt, who was taken into custody and booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on Wednesday, December 16 - the same day she made her first appearance in court. KWCH reports Blunt - wearing a yellow prison jumpsuit - started to breathe heavily as the judge spoke. At times, she could also be seen shaking her head in the courtroom and looking around the room erratically, according to the station. At one point, she also clutched her chest as if in pain, and her body could be seen jerking as she stared forward - her mouth, wide open. Martin is also still in custody at the Sedgwick County jail, but it was unclear if his bond had been set. It's unclear what his connection to the victim is. She is due back in court on December 29. Martin is also accused of a second count of child abuse for an incident that allegedly occurred between July 1 and December 8. Tiuri's father, Nathaniel Porrata, has set up a GoFundMe page to help cover the cost of his son's funeral. "My world has been turned upside down," he wrote on the fundraising page. "I am struggling to process the pain and shock of losing Tiuri so suddenly." Nathaniel said he recently moved to a new city in hopes of securing a "brighter future" for his family. "I had just landed a new job, and our finances were finally starting to recover," he wrote. "My soon to be ex-wife and our children were planning to join me at the beginning of 2026, and we were looking forward to being together again as a family."
