Former adult film star Devyn Michaels has been found guilty in Las Vegas of beheading and murdering her ex-husband, Johnathan Willette, before she went on to marry his son. Michaels, 47, was convicted of first-degree murder in November after a two-week long trial, in which prosecutors and defense attorneys presented vastly different versions of the events leading up to Willette's death, according to 8 News Now. Police discovered Willette's dead body in 2023, with chemicals poured over it. Detectives suspect that Michaels decapitated her ex and threw his head in the trash in her northwest valley neighborhood. Prosecutors John Giordani and Brittni Griffith claimed that Michaels was angry with Willette after he won sole custody of their two children, according to The Mirror. Griffith also alleged that Willette was planning to move away with Michaels and his son. However, the attorney claimed that Michaels wanted her ex-husband out of the picture. "And the truth is, the walls were closing in on Devyn Michaels and the fantasy that she had put together," Griffith told the jury, according to The Mirror. Gypsy Rose Blanchard Breaks Silence on 'Disturbed' Ex Who Killed Her Mom After Michaels and Willette divorced in 2018, she married Willette's son Deviere Willette. During the trial, she testified that she considered both unions as marriages of convenience. Deviere, 29, also testified during the trial, telling the jury that he was in no way involved with his father's death. Prosecutors presented a video during his testimony, which showed Michaels telling police she was giving her ex-husband a massage in his bedroom when she struck him with a candlestick. "He didn't say anything. He stopped moving," Michaels told the detectives in that interview, per the clip. Henderson police detective Dennis Ozawa detailed another interview he had with Michaels amid the investigation, in which she told him she placed Willette's head in a laundry basket before she disposed of it in her neighborhood. As of time of publication, neither the murder weapon nor Willette's head have been found. Meanwhile, Michaels' attorneys suggested Willette's son could have been a possible suspect in the murder. However, the legal team failed to provide any evidence that could link him to the crime. "Where's the testimony of a powered saw?" Michaels' attorney Robert Draskovich asked during the closing remarks. "We don't know when that happened. She didn't do it." Before she was found guilty by the jury, Michaels pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, according to Courthouse News. However, she took back the plea in July and was eventually charged with first-degree murder ahead of the November trial. With regard to her original guilty plea, Clark County District Court Judge Tierra Jones ruled that Michaels had entered it "voluntarily, knowingly and intelligently," according to court documents viewed by The Mirror. She has not yet received her sentencing for the crime as of time of publication. Michaels is a former adult film actress who used to work under the names Nikki Fairchild and Tracee Tavarez.
