Rob Reiner and wife Michele Singer Reiner's son Nick Reiner was arrested for the murders of both his parents. Rob and Michele were found dead inside their California house on December 14, 2025, from apparent stab wounds. The couple was 78 and 70, respectively. Nick was subsequently arrested for allegedly killing his parents but has not entered a plea. He is scheduled to be arraigned on January 7, 2026. "This is a devastating tragedy that has befallen the Reiner family," Nick's attorney, Alan Jackson, said in a December 17, 2025, statement. "We all recognized that our hearts go out to the entire Reiner family. There are very, very complex and serious issues that are associated with this case. Those need to be thoroughly, but very carefully dealt with and examined and looked at and analyzed." CNN reported in December 2025 that Nick had been staying in a guest house on Rob and Michele's property, claiming that it was detached from the main structure. "I got totally spun out on uppers - I think it was coke and something else - and I was up for days on end," Nick, who has struggled with addiction through the years, recalled on the podcast. "I started punching out different things in my guest house. I went 10 rounds in my guest house. I literally punched the TV." According to Nick, he "wrecked" nearly every furnishing in the guest house. "They told me I had to go," he said, seemingly revealing his parents attempted to kick him out. "I was hands-on and trying to do whatever I thought I could do to help. I'm sure I made mistakes and, you know, I've talked about that with him since."
