A woman in the United Kingdom initially claimed that her husband died when he "slipped" onto a kitchen knife. However, she is now on trial for his murder after authorities discovered an ominous note that she wrote on her calendar on the day he died. "It has got 'bye bye' and it has got two kisses, and it has got a heart," Daryl Berman testified of the note she wrote in her calendar during a hearing on Monday, December 15, according to the Manchester Evening News. "I put it on at the end of the day when everybody had gone and I was ready to go up to bed." When Daryl's husband, David Berman, died in March, it was initially ruled an accident. But an investigation was later launched into his death and authorities ordered an autopsy of his body. During the trial, Daryl, 71, said she laid down with David "at least four times" as she waited for his body to be removed, per the Manchester Evening News. "I kissed him and I stroked his arm. I did it quite a few times," she added. Brian Walshe Verdict Revealed: Husband Found Guilty of Murdering Wife Ana While talking to investigators, Daryl allegedly told police that she was eating a chicken salad sandwich and had a knife on a food tray when David offered to take the tray into the kitchen for her. As David went into the kitchen, she claimed that she heard "what sounded like a stumble or a fall." She then claimed to have found David face down on the ground with the knife in his chest. "It was like a stumble or a slip," Daryl recalled in court. "Then I heard another noise. It was like a groan. I jumped up and screamed and ran in." Daryl claimed to police that David was making a "gurgling" sound after the alleged fall, adding there was "tons of blood." "I sort of looked down, moved his head a bit, and I thought 'what on earth is all this gravy? We don't have gravy,'" she allegedly said during one of her police interviews, per the outlet. "It was the amount of blood. I've never seen anything like it in my life. I got the shock of my life because I didn't know where it was coming from." Daryl then called police, where a dispatcher talked her through giving "compressions." While Daryl admitted to writing the ominous note, the Evening News reported that she denied killing her husband during the December 15 court hearing. Last week, local medical examiner Dr. Philip Lumb - who performed David's autopsy - said during the trial that Daryl's claims about the victim falling onto the knife were "inconceivable." The medical examiner pointed to the stab wound, as well as a "defensive injury" found on his finger, as proof he didn't fall on the knife. "I personally have not come across one." While Daryl is being tried for murder, police have not yet revealed a motive for the suspect. The trial is ongoing, and a verdict has not yet been determined.
