Dia Dipasupil / Getty Images For a bit of context, the 29-year-old star has regularly been at the center of discourse in recent weeks, starting back in November when he made some seriously misguided comments about people who choose to remain child-free in an interview with Vogue. Dia Dipasupil / Getty Images The piece noted that Timmy recalled watching another celebrity - who he refused to name - "bragging about not having kids and how much time it afforded them to do other stuff" in an interview. He and his friend, who were watching the interview together, then "turned to each other, 'Like, holy shit. Oh my God. Bleak.'" The Vogue writer went on to note that while Timmy, who is in a relationship with mom-of-two Kylie Jenner, acknowledged that some people "can't have children or are never in a position to," he believes that "procreation is the reason we're here." Darren Walsh / Getty Images Then, earlier this month, an interview Timothée did with Margaret Gardiner was mysteriously scrubbed from the internet after it triggered huge backlash. In the conversation, the star earnestly said that he doesn't want people to take his "top-of-the-line" performances "for granted," and was promptly accused of being arrogant. Vittorio Zunino Celotto / Getty Images Praising his own work as an actor, Timothée said of his performance in his upcoming movie Marty Supreme: "This is probably my best performance, you know, and it's been like seven, eight years that I feel like I've been handing in really, really committed top-of-the-line performances. And it's important to say it out loud because the discipline and the work ethic I'm bringing to these things - I don't want people to take it for granted. I don't want to take it for granted. This is really some top-level shit." Monica Schipper / Getty Images "The bigger, more important thing is I want the movie to succeed, and I want everything to win in the film industry," he began. And when pressed on how he personally measures the success of the film, Timothée said: "This is a real conversation, I'm trying to keep my PR brain on..." ABC / Via x.com "But the truth is, with Marty Supreme, I feel confident to the degree that by next summer..." he then hesitated as he stumbled over his words. "I don't know, man, should I not be saying this? ...I feel like... I'm confident I know what it's gonna be by next summer." (@speakfilms) December 16, 2025 ABC / Via Twitter: @speakfilms While the star didn't explicitly say that he believes he'll win the Oscar, many interpreted his comments to be referencing this - highlighting the fact that he said he wants his movie to "win in the film industry." And even if he wasn't directly referencing himself receiving an Academy Award, people still found his self-assuredness off-putting. One tweet that is going viral simply shares the interview clip alongside the caption: "not timotheé chalamet basically saying that he knows he will be an oscar winner by next summer." ABC / Via x.com A popular quote-tweet adds: "he's a great actor who i'm sure will win an oscar one day and will deserve it but currently he's displaying levels of delulu we've never seen before and it's embarrassing to watch."Another referenced the fact that Leonardo DiCaprio didn't win an Oscar until more than two decades into his career, at the age of 41. They wrote: "Leonardo DiCaprio never acted like this and he's arguably one of the best actors of all time. Timothée please stop."Somebody else tweeted: "I've never rooted so hard against anybody," while one more added: "The arrogance is making him look so ugly and I really don't like how only male actors can get away with talking like this." It's worth noting that this showboating from Timmy isn't entirely new, with the star also causing a stir earlier this year when he accepted the Best Actor in a Leading Role SAG Award back in February. At the time, the star confessed: "I know we're in a subjective business, but the truth is...I want to be one of the greats. I'm inspired by the greats. I'm inspired by the greats here tonight. I'm as inspired by Daniel Day-Lewis, Marlon Brando, and Viola Davis as I am by Michael Jordan
