Such a nightmare for this poor young woman! Rob and Michele Singer Reiner were ruthlessly murdered in their Los Angeles home this weekend, allegedly by their own son, Nick, who has since been arrested and charged for first-degree murder. Initial reports all stated their 28-year-old daughter Romy was the one to find them. But horrifying new details are emerging about what she walked into and what she really knew. A source close to the family told the New York Times on Tuesday that the couple's message therapist had arrived at the home on Sunday afternoon for a scheduled appointment with the couple (before their dinner plans with the Obamas), but when they couldn't get through the gate or get in touch with the couple, they called Romy, who came right over with a roommate. According to reports, the parents' throats were slit and they were stabbed all over. Law enforcement sources also told TMZ that rigor mortis had set in at around 3:40 p.m., when authorities arrived - meaning they'd been dead for hours at that point. Insiders familiar with the investigation added that the bodies appeared to have been "butchered" by a "mad man." So, so gruesome, and their poor daughter now has those images in her brain forever. Awful. But here's the one caveat to that. Romy actually only saw her father before she "fled" the home. She got out of there fast and her roommate, who was waiting outside, called 911. Romy left so fast, she didn't realize her mother was also dead in the house. A paramedic later informed her that the photographer had also been murdered in the home. So, so sad. It's also devastating to realize the murders may not have occurred in the same room or at the same time. Imagine the terror and heartbreak one of them must've felt after realizing what their son was allegedly doing to their spouse. There are just no words... Romy is the youngest of the couple's kids. They also shared 34-year-old son, Jake, and Rob was the father of his adopted daughter, Tracy, 61, from a previous marriage. Nick struggled with mental health and addiction since he was a teenager. He'd been living in his parents' guesthouse, but was not present when Romy arrived. Per some reports, she accused him of being dangerous, but the NYT's insider disputes this, insisting she only explained he lived on the property. The insider claimed nothing about Nick's behavior in recent weeks suggested he was capable of something like this. According to previous DailyMail.com insiders, Nick was a "ticking time bomb" and would have drug-fueled rages in his living quarters. As his addiction struggles were getting worse, Rob and Michele reportedly "wanted him out" - especially when things escalated, and especially when he started threatening his sister! A confidant dished: "He really had no control. He busted his hand when he punched the bathroom wall and refused to get help. He would fight with his parents because they would give him the ultimatum, take medication and stop using, or move out. When he started threatening his sister for confronting him that's when all hell broke loose. His parents threatened to call authorities multiple times, but in the end didn't." It's just so terrible.
