Posted 35 minutes agoEven MAGA Voters Are Calling Trump's Remarks About Rob Reiner's Murder "Classless" And "Disgusting""His ego makes him think that everyone thinks he needs to comment on every issue, and we don't."by Brian GalindoBuzzFeed StaffFacebookPinterestLink As you probably know, following the tragic news that filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, were killed in their home, Donald Trump posted on his Truth Social platform that Reiner's anti-Trump politics, the so-called "Trump Derangement Syndrome," were linked to the death. He later doubled down on his comments and said that Reiner "was very bad for our country." Those remarks drew strong criticism from many politicians on both sides of the aisle, with some Republican lawmakers calling the remarks inappropriate and urging more empathy for the family. Anna Moneymaker / Getty Images Even some within Trump's usual loyal base have also pushed back, saying the focus should stay on the tragedy rather than politics. This includes redditor, Mylabisawesome, who yesterday posted in the r/Conservative subreddit, saying, "I really have to ask what is going on with our President lately. I am a conservative Republican, not MAGA, and a 3x Trump voter. I saw his statement on the death of Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele. I am not surprised, but the statement was self-aggrandizing, appalling, and disgusting. So what if he isn't a supporter or fan? He still did a lot for the arts/cinema." Bloomberg / Bloomberg via Getty Images, Kevin Dietsch / Getty Images They went on to say that, along with Trump's comments about Reiner, there are other things they're unhappy about: "I will say a ballroom is needed so we don't have to host world leaders in tents and other venues, but the arch he is talking about is unnecessary. Some of his latest pardons are extremely stupid and beyond comprehension. I want to get back to the main focus: immigration, crime, economy. I loved the early wins when shit was happening so fast the left couldn't keep up. He needs to stop the petty shit slinging and be above the pale here. Stop stooping down to the Dems' level. Don't get me wrong, it will take A LOT to get me to go to the Dems' side, but there are some things lately I just can't get behind. Am I wrong or alone in this?" Kevin Dietsch / Getty Images The post quickly drew a flood of replies from both MAGA voters and more traditional conservatives who said they agreed with the criticism. Below are some of the comments from Trump supporters, reacting not just to his remarks about Reiner's murder, but to other issues where they say they're increasingly breaking with him: "Most of us were not fans of Rob Reiner, but on a human level, no one should wish physical harm or explain away such harm upon him or his family. Trump's remarks were inappropriate. It wouldn't have taken much to express condolences to his family and friends, despite their obvious differences." -Stockjock1 "There are times to throw punches, and there are times to be a gracious leader. I wish President Trump would learn to distinguish between the two." -milovulongtime "Trump needs to sit down and shut up. His ego makes him think that everyone thinks he needs to comment on every issue, and we don't. His narcissism makes him want to be part of every story, but he often opens his mouth or engages his fingers before his brain. The US would be a better place if Trump just STOPPED TALKING." -StedeBonnet1 Kevin Dietsch / Getty Images "I'm as big a Trump fan as anyone... That said, if Trump ever wanted to see his biggest liability, he should look in the damn mirror. Even a LITTLE bit of humbleness would go a long way towards blunting his own jackass tendencies... To me, it looks like he is more and more set in his ways (as maybe should be expected from a 79-year-old). So he's definitely not changing any time soon." "He's also impacted by the job in ways none of us could possibly understand: the constant scrutiny, the stress, the assassination attempts... No matter how fair-minded we want to think we are, we fall short of knowing what he knows. Still, if he were concerned about being a liked (and effective) politician, he wouldn't constantly plug himself into EVERYTHING. Clearly, he simply doesn't care, and nobody appears able to catch his ear on the topic."-Winstons33 "'Am I wrong or alone in this?' Not at all, there certainly seems to be a lot of unforced errors recently. That statement, especially, was absolutely classless. There needs to be a serious refocus on the basics by him and his team. I'm not sure if the election made them blink or what, but they seem to be losing focus and stepping on rakes needlessly." -Iuris_Aequalitatis "The pardons are a business; he's selling them. He's doing a speed run showing how corrupt all politicians are just by being the most blatantly corrupt. That's one way to drain the swamp, I guess." -LemartesIX "Conservatives are in charge of the government right now, and we need to act like it. Righ
