They were at Conan O'Brien's Christmas party the night before, where the father and son were overheard getting into a "very loud argument." On Monday, a guest began by telling the outlet that despite the argument with their son, the famed When Harry Met Sally director and his wife seemed in good spirits at the holiday party: "Rob was in such a great mood, he was with all of his friends. He and Michele stayed late talking to everyone, before making their way home around midnight." But, of course, there was something going on among the family members, if the argument claims are true. It's not immediately known what, but something was amiss. A family friend who had known the director for over 50 years revealed: "There was some sort of fight on Thanksgiving weekend." The pal detailed: "I don't know if it was Friday or Saturday, but Michele was really bothered by that. She said that it was really bad between Rob and Nick, and it was the same 'around and around' that they always had. They were constantly butting heads." Rough! Other friends said they were shocked by the "unfathomable" killings: "Rob was friends with everyone and the nicest guy in the room. He wore his heart on his sleeve, along with Michele, so it pained them immensely that the wonderful life they had was with its cracks, and those cracks were from Nick and his substance and mental illness issues." That said, the parents maintained a positive outlook when navigating their son's challenges: "You'd never know it, as they dealt with it with as much grace as possible and never burdened their friends with it - just occasionally saying they were looking to get him help. ... They would think of anything to do to help Nick, and once things seemed to be working, something would change and they would be at square one all over again. ... It was a revolving circle that they couldn't get out of." Tensions were notable in September when the family stepped out together for the premiere of Rob's film Spinal Tap II: The End Continues.
