The preview, released Tuesday (below), shows Katherine LaNasa's charge nurse Dana returning after she was ready to quit at the end of a particularly taxing shift, during which she was punched in the face by a patient, in season one. In an indication of how she dealt with wanting to leave, she's shown saying that she "took some time" but "who else is going to get this place through the Fourth of July," as she looks at the crowded waiting room. While Taylor Dearden's Mel is excited to see Langdon there's still some tension between the returning physician and Noah Wyle's Robby, who asks Langdon to cover triage. "We can cover for you. We've been doing it for months," Robby tells him. Elsewhere Robby, who says he's set to embark on a "little sabbatical," is shown having some tense interactions with his "replacement," Dr. Al-Hashimi (new castmember Sepideh Moafi). After she's interrupted by an ambulance while trying to tell him her ideas for improving the department, Robby is shown telling her "You are a very empathetic soul but this is the ED, it's not for the faint of heart." She responds, "What do you need to get some basic empathy back." Amid this and shots of the doctors dealing with various traumas, both Dana and Dr. Abbot (Shawn Hatosy) indicate Robby may be struggling with some demons he has yet to confront. Abbot tells Robby that his break is going to involve "a lot of time to self-reflect. Are you sure you can handle that?" Robby sort of shrugs and makes a face. The trailer also suggests the doctors may have to grapple with some technical difficulties as a voiceover is heard saying that "Westbridge hospital has shut down all computer systems." Over what looks like the computers going down," Robby says they're "going analog." The Pitt returns to HBO Max almost exactly one year after it premiered, debuting on Thursday, Jan. 8 at 9 p.m., with new episodes of the 15-episode season dropping weekly ahead of the April 16 finale. The cast also includes Supriya Ganesh (Dr. Mohan), Fiona Dourif (Dr. McKay), Isa Briones (Dr. Santos), Gerran Howell (Whitaker) and Shabana Azeez (Javadi). It was previously revealed that season two of The Pitt would take place 10 months after season one, over the July 4 weekend, giving Robby and the other characters some time to deal with the issues that emerged from the mass shooting and other incidents that took place in season one. After Robby suffers a meltdown near the end of season one, Wyle and creator R. Scott Gemmill have teased that the second season will feature him seeking treatment for his own trauma as well as a larger "journey of healing," as Gemmill put it. The Pitt, which won five Emmys including best drama series and acting prizes for Wyle and LaNasa for its first season, is executive produced by Gemmill, Wyle, John Wells, Michael Hissrich, Erin Jontow and Simran Baidwan.
