I have a trans godson. There's no governor who has signed more pro-trans legislation than I have. No one has been a stronger advocate for the LGBTQ community." NYT / America / Via x.com Now, it is worth noting that the clip was in context of Newsom explaining his views on trans women in sports, which he has historically said he agreed with Charlie Kirk on. Indeed, earlier this year, Newsom said he thought it was "deeply unfair" for trans women to compete, which provoked intense backlash - making him hardly the most progressive of the Democrats on the issue. In fact, right after the end of the chosen clip, he said, "But you have to accommodate the reality of those whose rights are being taken away as we advance the rights of the trans community, in terms of the fairness of athletic competition. And I just think that's not a bigoted position."
