The trailer (below) starts out with Will (Noah Schnapp) telling mom Joyce (Winona Ryder), in what might be more of a question than a statement: "We failed. We never stood a chance." Her response: "This is not over - not by a long shot." But it seems like our heroes (and us, by extension) will learn some new (and alarming) things about the Upside Down in the next batch of episodes. As a horrified Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) says: "This whole time, everything we have ever assumed about the upside down, has been dead wrong." But, to reiterate Joyce, the fight isn't over yet. He and Steve later exchange a promise: "If you die, I die." In addition to showing Vecna (both in human and monster form) and some Demogorgons, the trailer also includes some glimpses of Max (Sadie Sink) and Holly (Nell Fisher), who apparently leave their cave and walk through a floating door in the middle of a pasture, destination unknown as of yet. Stranger Things 5, Vol. 1 is now streaming. Vol. 2 (three new episodes) releases at 5 p.m. PT on Christmas Day. The finale will hit screens both big (in theaters) and small (on Netflix) at 5 p.m. PT on New Year's Eve. The official logline for season five: "The fall of 1987. Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished - his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding. As the anniversary of Will's disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming - and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they've faced before. To end this nightmare, they'll need everyone - the full party - standing together, one last time." Created by the Duffer Brothers, Stranger Things is produced by Upside Down Pictures and 21 Laps Entertainment with the Duffer Brothers serving as executive producers, alongside Shawn Levy of 21 Laps Entertainment and Dan Cohen. The cast also includes David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Maya Hawke, Priah Ferguson, Brett Gelman, Cara Buono, Amybeth McNulty, Jake Connelly, Alex Breaux and Linda Hamilton.
