Landman's Jacob Lofland is defending Cooper and Ariana's fast-paced romance as the fictional couple makes plans to get engaged. Warning: This story contains spoilers about Landman. During the Sunday, December 14, episode of the hit Paramount+ series, Ariana (Paulina Chavez) mentioned that living with Cooper and making plans for the future felt off when they weren't engaged or married. Cooper hinted at his intention to commit to Ariana, which she told him required he get permission from her father. Cooper subsequently made the drive to ask Ariana's dad for her hand in marriage. Her father said Ariana didn't need his permission but he gave his approval, which is one more step toward Cooper properly proposing to his girlfriend after they started dating days after her husband's death. What the Cast of Taylor Sheridan's 'Landman' Looks Like in Real Life "[It's] for the audience to make their own conclusion on [whether they are moving too fast]. Everyone has got their own opinion," Lofland, 29, noted. "But the thing is, in the life of these characters, no one else is living it. It's them." Lofland noted that only Cooper and Ariana know what is best for them. "It could be two weeks and it could be two months. I've heard plenty of people that have been married for 30 years that didn't date for six weeks," he said. "I've also heard, people that dated for seven years get married and it's done in three months." Emerson Miller/Paramount+. Whether Cooper and Ariana will last is "up in the air," with the actor adding, "They're a really strong couple and they can be stronger and they're learning each other. This is Cooper's first real relationship in his life. So it's taken a little while to figure out how to how to navigate it. He's never been in this situation - especially with the pressure from working and in trying to start his own company." He continued: "It's going to be a learning curve, for sure. We're going to get to learn with him through as we go." Landman, which premiered in 2024, follows the world of oilfields in West Texas. When the show debuted, Cooper was preparing for his first day working for his dad but on his second day, an explosion killed all of his coworkers - including Ariana's husband, Elvio (Alejandro Akara). By the end of season 1, Cooper and Ariana were living together with her and Elvio's infant child. "That's one thing about a Taylor [Sheridan] show. When things are going too smooth, there's usually something coming," Lofland teased. "So far, it's going great. Like I said, they're navigating it well. We'll just see how it goes. I think everyone's going to be excited to watch the rest of the season." TV Couples We Need Together in 2026: From 'The Pitt' to 'Tracker' Going into season 2, Lofland had no idea what to expect for Cooper's journey - professionally and personally. "We had all 10 scripts and we basically shot a 10-hour movie knowing where we began and where we left off. Whenever we started season 2, we started with two scripts and then they came out as normal TV does. So we were learning just as just as the audience is right now - week to week - we would figure out where we're going next," he recalled. "It definitely got its challenges when you get a script on a Friday and you start shooting that script Monday." Lofland hinted what fans can expect going forward, "There's definitely some twists, turns and surprises that are coming in the next episodes. There's a few things that I don't think anyone sees coming. I definitely didn't. There's some awesome surprises - good and bad - but it's all going to work out." New episodes of Landman season 2 premiere via Paramount+ every Sunday.
