A grieving groom has accepted a final settlement in a wrongful death suit he filed after his bride was killed by a drunk driver on the night of their wedding. Shortly after Samantha Miller and Aric Hutchinson tied the knot during a ceremony in Folly Beach, South Carolina, on April 28, 2023, she was killed when Jamie Lee Komoroski rear-ended the golf cart that was transporting the newlyweds to their hotel. Komoroski, who was intoxicated at the time of the incident, was driving 65 mph. A final settlement in the case was approved on Tuesday, December 9. Hutchinson previously filed a wrongful death suit against Komoroski and a handful of South Carolina bars after Komoroski was reportedly "bar hopping" before the collision, according to WCBD, WRAL and WCSC. As part of the settlement, Komoroski's vehicle insurer will pay $160,000 to Hutchinson. He will receive $104,586.67 of the $160,000, while the remaining funds will be used to cover attorney fees and other costs, per the outlets. WCBD reported that Hutchinson's attorney certified the settlement on his behalf, according to Charleston County court records. Komoroski has since been released from further civil claims stemming from the tragedy. Grayson Murray's Coach Gets Emotional Talking to Late Golfer's Fiancee A judge previously approved settlements from the bars The Drop-In, the Crab Shack and Snapper Jacks, Hutchinson's attorneys confirmed to WCBD. Additionally, other settlements had been approved with Progressive Auto Insurance and Enterprise Rent-A-Car during a motion hearing that was held on June 18, 2024. In total, Hutchinson was awarded about $863,300 in settlement money. Miller, who was a passenger in the golf cart, died at the age of 34 from blunt force injuries sustained in the accident, according to People. Hutchinson was also injured during the collision, and he underwent multiple surgeries after he broke both legs and multiple bones in his face. Two other family members were also involved in the crash and were injured after they were "thrown over 100 yards and rolled several times," according to a GoFundMe page created by Hutchinson's mother. WCSC reported that Komoroski had a blood alcohol level of 0.261 percent at the time of the crash, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division's toxicology report. The level was three times over the legal limit. Komoroski was sentenced to 25 years in prison in December 2024 after she pleaded guilty to a felony charge for a DUI causing death, two felony charges for a DUI causing great bodily injury and an additional charge for reckless homicide. Who Are Jillian Green and Kyle Mowitz? Couple's $100M Divorce Explained Hutchinson previously opened up about the experience during an appearance on Good Morning America in May 2023. "I remember waking up - just kind of foggy, out of sorts - and I could see my mom's face," he said. "You could tell that something was wrong. And I asked her, 'Where's Sam, where's Sam?' And that's when she told me about the incident and that Sam didn't make it." He added that he was still "trying to wrap [his] head around" his wife's death. "That night, going on an all-time high to an all-time low. It's pretty rough to comprehend. ... We had family, friends, from all over the country - everywhere there. And everyone was just so happy. She was so happy. It was [one of the best nights of my life]," Hutchinson said.
