Tate McRae is opening up about one of her fan-LEAST-favorite collaborations - the one with Morgan Wallen! It's been seven months since Morgan released his album I'm the Problem. For those who weren't tuned in at the time, it's an understatement to say fans were SHOCKED to see one of his collaborations included pop sensation Tate McRae for the track What I Want! At the time, it seemed like such an unlikely pairing: a rising pop star with the guy who was caught slinging racial slurs AND chairs off rooftop bars - which landed him felony charges! Fans were quick to make their opinions known on X (Twitter): "Oh.... We love you Tate, but this is disappointing." "how are you gonna kill your career like that after releasing sports car" "we was just starting to like you" "i feel sick to my stomach..." "didn't buy insurance on my tate tickets.... i'm f**ked" "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" Well, it's been seven months now since the song came out. And Tate is finally reflecting on the backlash. During an interview with Rolling Stone published on Thursday, the 22-year-old talked about how country music had always been a part of her life growing up - and a genre she had aspirations to dive into sonically, herself: "Honestly, country music is huge where I'm from. My brother's always been a rabid country-music fan. I've always wanted, at some point in my life, to do folk music or country, and I probably still will in the future." She defended her collab with Morgan as something she thought was a "cool" opportunity: "But I honestly just got the opportunity to do a country song, and I was like, 'Oh, this is cool.' And I wanted to cross genres really bad. It was just about the song for me. I didn't realize how much a song would be connected to all the other factors, and it really shocked me." She went on to admit she doesn't "regret" the song - and revealed she never actually met the country crooner in person during their collab: "I don't think you should regret anything in life, because it gives you so much clarity. I think controversy and criticism is a way of learning and figuring out what you want to move forward with, and how that shapes you as a person. I think it's all important." Does that mean no more country music for Tate? Or at least no more Morgan collabs in the pipeline??
