Ryan Lochte's estranged wife, Kayla Lochte, is not about to let him get the final word amid their tense divorce. Following news that Ryan, 41, will release a tell-all memoir, Kayla, 34, took to Instagram on Thursday, December 11, to share a throwback video from their wedding in 2018. "Just going to leave this here 🙂," she cheekily wrote alongside the clip, which showed Ryan, dressed in a beige Giorgio Verdi suit at the altar, sharing his touching marriage vows with Kayla, who wore a Galia Lahav bridal gown. "Standing by my side during Rio was proof that you love me more than I could ever imagined," he said, in part, to Kayla, who dabbed away tears with a tissue. "Those were the darkest days of my life, and I thank God every day that I have you to pick me up. You kept me going. You pushed me to set new goals, and you gave me a reason to live." Ryan Lochte's Wife Kayla Opens Up About Their Ongoing, 'Complex Divorce' At the time, Ryan told Kayla he would always respect, push and share his heart with her, and be the best husband and father he could be "Whether it's little handwritten notes in the cupboard or a helicopter ride on top of a mountain, I will never stop reminding you of my love for you," he told her. "Today, as we continue our story, I am confident that no matter what ups and downs we face, as long as we are together on this journey, and I'm in charge of the directions, we will always make it home." Commenters didn't shy away from supporting Kayla. "You've aged backwards and he's not looking (or speaking) 'well' 😵💫. #karma," Christina Haack wrote under the post, with Bachelor alum Caroline Lunny sharing, "You're such a class act. Narcissists love to twist the truth to make themselves look like the victim. They love to rewrite history to free themselves from the guilt of their own actions. Thank god for beautiful memories like this for your kids to know the truth, and to be reminded that they were in fact created from a place of love. 🤎." Ryan and Kayla, who share three children - son Caiden Zane, 8, and daughters Liv Rae, 6, and Georgia June, 2 - announced their divorce in June after Kayla initially filed in March. "Earlier this year, I made the hard decision to end my marriage after deep prayer and reflection," Kayla wrote at the time via Instagram. "I hold marriage in the highest regard, so this has been one of the most painful, revealing, and challenging seasons of my life. I've been hesitant to share until I could do so from a place of healing - not from fresh, open wounds." Ryan Lochte's Ex Reminds Herself to 'Survive' Then 'Thrive' Amid Divorce She continued, "Sometimes we face trials we didn't choose or see coming. And in those moments, we're forced to make the hardest decisions to protect our peace, our children, and our future. I've come to the understanding that staying isn't always the most loving decision someone can make. For me, leaving was an act of love - for those around me and for myself." Since then, Kayla and the 12-time Olympic medalist have been embroiled in a tense divorce as she claimed their marriage was "irretrievably broken" and demanded primary custody of their kids. Kayla has accused Ryan of using drugs in front of their children and claimed, per her lawyer, that his "repeated irresponsible behavior shows he is unfit to exercise shared parental responsibility, and it would [be] a detriment to the minor children to award the same." Ryan, who has said he's sober and attended rehab treatment, admitted to using drugs in the home but denied using around the children when contacted by Us Weekly in September. He told Us, "As I acknowledged earlier this week, after my car accident in 2023, I fell into a cycle of depression that led to substance abuse." He continued, "We all make mistakes in life. We are not defined by those mistakes, but by how we learn from them and the work we put in to overcome them. I am extremely sorry for hurting or disappointing anyone along the way. My focus now is on my recovery, on being the best father I can be, and on moving forward in a way that keeps my kids safe, supported, and loved." Ryan Lochte Addresses Claim Wife Was Forced to Divorce Him Over Betrayal Ryan and Kayla were also sued last month for foreclosure after failing to pay certain fees on their four-bedroom, three-bathroom, 2,838-square-foot home in Gainesville, Florida, worth an estimated $660,500. The Fletcher Park Owner's Association filed a lien against Ryan and Kayla's home in July, demanding $3,686 in unpaid fees. Because the lien was not handled, the association filed the lawsuit. Ryan moved out of the home following the divorce. (The association pointed out that the home in question had another lien filed against it by the Internal Revenue Service. Per the lien, obtained by Us, Ryan and Kayla are accused of owing $99,696 in unpaid taxes. The breakdown is $48,182 for 2021 and $51,513 for 2022.) As Us previously reported, Ryan and Kayla have yet to finalize their divorce.
