A California man has been arrested by Maryland authorities for allegedly raping a woman twice in Gaithersburg, Maryland, mere moments after she had been in a car crash. A statement from police alleges that the rape happened on the evening of December 18, 2024 - but that Mauricio Martinez-Garcia, was only arrested on December 5. Prosecutors announced the charges against the 27-year-old man on Wednesday, December 10. The victim filed a complaint with police after the alleged rape, telling cops she did not know the man who attacked, according to a statement from police. The woman told detectives she had ordered food and drinks at a Gaithersburg restaurant. While waiting at the bar for her order, the woman said an unknown man approached her and insisted on paying her tab. She let the man pick up her bill, and ended up moving to a table. She told police she suddenly started to feel ill and decided to head home. After leaving the restaurant, the woman was involved in a single car crash that disabled her vehicle. Police said that is when Martinez-Garcia pulled over. The woman said that Martinez-Garcia walked up to her car and offered to help her out. Then, according to investigators, he allegedly assisted the woman into his car and drove them away from the scene, against her will. Martinez-Garcia allegedly took the woman to an apartment where he raped and sexually assaulted her. After allegedly forcing himself on her, Martinez-Garcia took the victim to her home, where he raped her a second time. Two days later, the woman went to a hospital and completed a sexual assault forensic examination. Detectives collected evidence from her body and from her home. Norwegian Crown Princess' Son Marius Arrested on Suspicion of Rape On December 5, 2025, investigators were able to link Martinez-Garcia to the rapes through a DNA match. Martinez-Garcia was ordered to provide a sample during a probe conducted by the Department of the Army. Martinez-Garcia, who has an address in Madera, California, is charged with two counts of first-degree rape, one count of third-degree sexual offense, two counts of kidnapping and five counts of second-degree assault, according to the statement from the Montgomery County Police Department. Police have also allegedly learned that Martinez-Garcia has been tied to another sexual assault case in Los Banos, California. Martinez-Garcia is currently being held in a California jail while awaiting extradition to Maryland. It was unclear if Martinez-Garcia is the same man who offered to pay the victim's bill. Martinez has not yet been asked to enter a plea, and information about his lawyer, given he has one, was not available at press time. Authorities strongly believe there may be additional victims and ask that anyone with relevant information is asked to contact the Montgomery County police Special Victims Investigations Division at (240) 773-5400.
