Riverdale alum Lili Reinhart has been diagnosed with endometriosis. "Last week, I was officially diagnosed with endometriosis following laparoscopic surgery," Reinhart, 29, captioned a series of hospital pictures via Instagram on Thursday, December 11. "Last year, I saw a urogynecologist and was diagnosed with interstitial cystitis. I was told there was no cure - and no lasting relief - for my symptoms." According to Reinhart, she went to a hospital three times and visited "multiple urologists and gynecologists" to diagnose her symptoms and come up with a treatment plan. "Not one of them seriously considered endometriosis as the underlying cause of what I was experiencing," the actress wrote. "It wasn't until I worked with two different pelvic floor therapists that the word endometriosis was even mentioned to me as a possible source of my pain. I pushed for an MRI on my own, which led to a diagnosis of adenomyosis." Celebrities Who Got Real About Battling Endometriosis Adenomyosis, according to the Mayo Clinic, occurs when the tissue that lines the uterus grows into the muscle wall and can cause the organ to double in size. Reinhart subsequently met with an endometriosis specialist about the best course of treatment. (According to the Mayo Clinic, endometriosis is an often-painful condition where uterine tissue grows outside of the uterus.) "I met with an endometriosis specialist who helped me decide that laparoscopic surgery was the next step I wanted to take," Reinhart explained. "At the same time, another gynecologist told me I 'probably didn't have endo' and should just go on the [birth control] pill." Endometriosis is an extremely misunderstood disease, leaving often a 4 to 11-year gap between symptoms and a definitive surgical diagnosis." Several of Reinhart's celebrity friends and followers have offered their best wishes for a smooth recovery in the Instagram comments section. "Aww buddy - sending you so much love 🤍," Jaimie Alexander replied. "Heal up and reach out if you need anything." Travel blogger Lindsey Henry, for her part, wrote, "I was diagnosed in the reverse order from you! Endo almost 11 years ago and then IS! There's got to be a big connection between the two [because] more and more people are posting both! Anyways, thank you for bringing awareness to these issues! Enzo needs more funding for research so that hopefully we can have a cure one day!" Lili Reinhart Praises Boyfriend's Support During Health Diagnosis Reinhart previously told Self in a January profile that she had been searching for a diagnosis for nearly four years after unexplained gut issues and weight gain. "I've done all of [the tests]," she told the outlet. "And my gut's still like, 'Hey, bitch, you got something. You just can't figure out what it is.'" Reinhart was in the middle of filming Riverdale season 6 while dealing with her then-mysterious health scare. "I really don't like looking at season 6 imagery or pictures, because I know that 99 percent of my thoughts were about my body," she said. "I was a thousand percent just disassociated through that entire day or scene because my entire inner dialogue is just, 'Your body's changing.'"
