[Warning: Potentially Triggering Content] Mikayla Matthews is sharing her unfiltered thoughts about The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives reunion, especially on Demi Engemann's upsetting sexual violence comments. Viewers had several issues with the special after it aired last Thursday, saying Hulu rushed the episode and that the cast members didn't have a chance to discuss their opinions about topics in Season 3. People even believed they spent way too much time on DadTok instead of the women, who are, you know, the actual stars of the show. Now, Mikayla is sounding off about the reunion in light of the backlash. It's hard to get 12 hours of footage down to an hour. Second, I don't need to see Dakota or Chase on my screen for longer than two seconds. At least Chase was behind the bar and not behind a wheel." Oh, damn! That is a reference, if you don't know, to his arrest back in July on three misdemeanor charges: driving under the influence, driving on a suspended or revoked license, and possession of a controlled substance! Mikayla is not holding back, apparently! Anyone could be a target amid her frustration! But the most troubling part about the reunion for Mikayla? Demi's remarks. During the episode, Demi explained how Vanderpump Villa star Marciano Brunette put his hands on her when the cameras weren't rolling during the group's cameo on Season 2 of his series. The server has repeatedly denied the sexual assault allegations and even later sued her for defamation. But on the show, Demi slammed the women for not believing her and thinking she is a liar - despite Jessi, Mayci, and Mikayla having all experienced sexual assault and abuse in the past. Jen Affleck chimed in at one point to claim she knew something consensual happened between Marciano and Demi while they were in Italy, and all hell broke loose. Demi screamed at the Dancing With The Stars alum, saying: "Jen, you don't f**king understand because you've never been sexually assaulted." However, Jen fired back: "Yes, I have." Rather than showing a second of sympathy, Demi replied: "Ok, that's great. Then have some f**king respect." "Ok, that's great?" WTF? That is not how you respond to a confession like that. Jeez. Demi then attempted to get Mayci, who also has been open about her history of rape and physical abuse, to support her: "I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be insensitive, but Mayci [what if you said] you got raped by your abuser or you got slapped or whatever. Then afterwards, you're like, 'I love you.' Then later, the group is like, 'Mayci, it's really weird that you said that.'" OMG. The entire group quickly interjected to tell Demi that it was not OK to compare the two experiences whatsoever. Ultimately, all of that was "very" triggering for Mikayla, who was sexually abused as a child. She did not like how Demi used her and the other women's stories against them, explaining: "With the whole Demi of it all, I obviously have an issue with her using not only my story, but Mayci [Neeley's] story and then Jessi [Ngatikaura] opened up. And almost guilting people for what they've been through and not believing what she's saying. I feel like obviously I have a huge issue with that, and I was very triggered." Mikayla said she was "pretty emotional for a long time" after Demi casually talked about abuse and rape on the show: "It was very triggering. I was also postpartum, so that was emotional of itself. I feel like I was very disassociated after and while she was talking but I think our faces said it all. It was frustrating." Mainly, the social media personality thought it was so "insensitive and disrespectful" to all victims: "I think it honestly is a slap in the face to victims everywhere. It's very insensitive and disrespectful the way she talks to people in general but also the way that she talks to victims and navigates that situation." Oof... Mikayla wished she had been given more time to talk about her own experience. Instead, she felt like her story was "almost pushed under the rug": "As far as my story goes, I feel like obviously it was disappointing. I'm opening up about things that are very triggering and traumatic and hard to talk about. ... I feel like if we're filming our story line for weeks, especially the heavy topics that we are talking about and opening up and navigating, the time to dive deeper and ask questions about it is the reunion. It was literally cut down to a minute. I wish it would've been handled in a more delicate way." Unfortunately, a lot ends up on the chopping block when you only have an hour episode. But hopefully, after the fan and cast feedback, the next one will be longer. Heck, we would love it if they took the Bravo route and gave us a three-part special. We'll see. As for Demi? S
