Isla Fisher has broken her silence after Confessions of a Shopaholic author Sophie Kinsella died at the age of 55. "Dear Sophie, you conjured Rebecca Bloomwood, a hilarious flawed dream of a comic character," Fisher, 49, wrote via her Instagram Story on Wednesday, December 10. "I was lucky enough to step into her shoes and speak your witty and brilliant words." Fisher starred as the titular shopping fiend in the 2009 film adaptation of Confessions of a Shopaholic opposite Hugh Dancy. Kinsella published her novel of the same name in 2000. "My daughters grew up being read your books and love them to this day," Fisher, who shares three kids with ex Sacha Baron Cohen, added in her note to Kinsella. "My heart is broken. You're still my hero, and I'm grateful for you." In a follow-up post on her Instagram Stories, Fisher added that she was "so heartbroken" by Kinsella's death. The bestselling author's family announced her death earlier on Wednesday. "She died peacefully, with her final days filled with her true loves: family and music and warmth and Christmas and joy. We can't imagine what life will be like without her radiance and love of life." The statement added, "Despite her illness, which she bore with unimaginable courage, Sophie counted herself truly blessed to have such wonderful family and friends, and to have had the extraordinary success of her writing career. She took nothing for granted and was forever grateful for the love she received.

"Since my glioblastoma diagnosis in 2022, I have been surrounded by the love and support of so many friends, family and readers from around the world," the author wrote via Instagram in June. "I'm incredibly grateful too for the wonderful medical care I've received. Brain cancer is an exceptionally hard to treat disease, and needs so much more research." Kinsella, who is survived by husband Henry Wickham and their five children, has authored tens of novels. Her bestselling Shopaholic series starred journalist Rebecca Bloomwood, who went to work at a financial magazine despite her own crippling debt. "When I come to a new book, I'm like, 'Hi Becky, let's have some fun together,'" Kinsella quipped to CBS News in 2014 of her writing process. "I step into her shoes and look at the world through her eyes and off we go. ... You're sitting alone in your room and you're tapping away [on a computer] and you hope people enjoy your book and then off it goes, but then you get somebody who says, 'Well, you know what? I read your book in the middle of the night when I was recovering from [an] operation and it got me through.' I mean, how can you do anything better in life than that?"
